Can anyone comment on the 17 inch vs. 18 inch wheels?

Online reviews invariably test the higher spec LBX models with 18 inch wheels, and many of those reviews describe the ride as firm. Do the lower spec LBX models with 17 inch wheels provide a softer ride?

Going to smaller diameter wheels, with the correct higher aspect tyres, will be more forgiving over rough road surfaces, with marginally better protection from potholes. The down side could be less positive handling and directional stability but personally, I don't think it would be significant.

If looks are not a priority I would always go with the small rims and taller tyres.

Thanks for the reply. Given the state of UK roads I too would lean towards the smaller wheels with their correspondingly larger tyre sidewall. The smaller wheels seemingly offer slightly better fuel efficiency too: 62.7 mpg vs. 61.4 mpg.

Can anyone explain to  me why smaller wheels with higher profile tyres give better fuel economy than larger wheels with low profile when the overall diameter is the same.

Bigger wheels and tyres have a higher rolling resistance, increased drag and are heavier.

Generally larger diameter wheels are fitted with lower profile but wider tyres. Wider tyres means greater surface area contact with road and thus increased friction - it’s why speedsters like low profile tyres because of shallower tyre walls meaning less flex and wider tyres meaning more grip. Supposed to give a more go-kart positive roadholding experience.
