Hi have just joined the Forum .

Looking to purchase a Lexus UX .Would appreciate some information on this model .

What are the trim levels lowest spec highest .

We have looked at a few cars

Have a test drive booked for next week .

The size of the boot was a surprise (small) also there doesn't appear to be a parcel shelf .

Would you recommend buying only from Lexus dealers , they have a service plan option , is it value for money ?

Performance/ride opinions  .

Entertainment system  (seems to get negative views 🙄.

Our budget is limited to £23000 depending on trade in offer .

Advice appreciated

The UX has changed quite a bit in the last few year’s model years (including a change of engine, 250h vs 300h)… and so the answers will really depend what year you’re looking at.

In terms of trim… generically across Lexus cars it’s roughly:

No name / nameless trim (now “Urban”)
Premium
F Sport Design
Premium Plus
F Sport
Takumi
F Sport Takumi

Its not necessarily the case that a higher case always adds features and has everything from the trims below - e.g. F Sport variants typically have some differences from Premium / Premium Plus / Takumi.

If your budget stretches, I would try for a UX300h in any trim - the engine is much better than the 250h, and it doesn’t have the theft vulnerability all the 250h cars do: https://mag.lexus.co.uk/lexus-uk-statement-on-vehicle-theft/

…if I was in your shoes, I would probably also be looking at the Toyota Corolla estate and C-HR. Possibly better value for your money…

You cannot get a 300h for £23k budget as they have only just been released. Engine is identical between the 250h and 300h, just the hybrid system that generates an extra 15bhp.

The engine horsepower has gone up which could be mapping but I can tell you from experience that the powertrain is noticeably pokyer (is that a word?).

When I was looking for my UX, I read through as many posts on this UX forum as I could.

It asked and answered many questions. Some I didn't even know I had!

A brand new UX 300h in the base Urban trim starts at £34,895. So you may need to consider a used car rather than new with your budget.

Before the latest refresh a few months ago, it was badged the 250h which had the previous generation of engine and Battery pack. Also the trim levels were named a bit differently back then as well. Whereas now there are 8 trim levels, previously there were much less. But the older trims had option packs that you could buy that are not available now. For example you could buy a 250h F Sport and then add on a Takumi pack to get the features of the Takumi trim. To get the same now, you would just opt for the 300h F Sport Takumi trim.

It's also worth bearing in mind that the UX has undergone two mid-life refreshes in the past year or so. So you will see older 250h's with the old infotainment system with the track-pad (which people didn't like), but that was refreshed late 2023 ish (and possibly referred to as the 2024 model year) and was replaced with a newer touch screen version that you see today. And then in about May / June of this year it was refreshed again with a new engine, Battery pack and additional sound deadening materials, and badged the 300h and this is referred to as the 2025 model year.

The boot is on the smaller side. However, has lots of hidden storage. So to the far left and right are little lidded cubbies to stash things. In the middle is a hidden compartment which is quite big. And underneath that is another hidden space with lots of cubbies there. There is no spare tire as all UX's get run flat tires, which makes space for these areas in the front wheel drive models. I believe the all wheel drive versions have less hidden space. And the parcel shelf is a fold-away fabric shelf. More for privacy as it is too flimsy to put anything on it other than a very light weight jacket.

I have only just ordered a UX for the first time. But if you are looking for a used UX, I think Premium plus might have been a mid-level trim, and Premium the base trim (well in the UK). The trim names can vary from country to country.

Having owned both I can say that the Toyota C-HR is nowhere near as refined as the UX but both share the small boot space issue. The older C-HR is particularly dingy in the rear seat compartment. I have the UX version with the track pad and it really isn't that bad. Mostly I use Android Auto with a wireless dongle and just ask Google to do stuff. There must be lots of low mileage UX out there around your budget as they appear to fit a 'certain' age group who appear to drive fewer miles.

Mine has the various safety 'extras' like cross-traffic warnings etc. and I recommend one with that as all-round view is somewhat restricted I find. Heated seats are great especially if you have leather/pleather like mine. I would advise you get a fabric finished vehicle though otherwise your a**e freezes or roasts depending on the season!

I find the track pad fine. And like the fabric seats too.

I use the Concierge feature which sorts out the heated seats and steering wheel for me. Luxury!

The 250 went to touch screen in late 2022 the start of the MY23 models not late 2023. My touchscreen was registered November 2022.

My £22K bought me a 2020 250h F Sport with 20,000 miles…from a Lexus dealer.  I’ve had a few issues with mine (documented on here).  The track pad system is fine and does not take a lot of getting used to..  Coming from a BMW 325i, my test drive in the UX was completely unfamiliar territory.  As my car is currently back at the dealer for a new driveshaft….or two…I’ve got a 1 year old 250h F Sport courtesy car to compare with mine.  The ride is still fidgety (as it also was with an LBX I had for a while), something well known, but which I can get used to.  The performance of the courtesy car, compared to my own right from the start, is a bit of a revelation….so now I know how a 250h should  go…no juddering under load..no trouble keeping up with the traffic, especially up long winding hills….so I might suggest trying more than 1 if I were you, to compare.  They’re not sports cars, but have adequate performance and lack of space is not an issue for me as there’s only two of us.  You buy a UX for comfort, reliability and economy….with any badge snobbery, if you are so inclined, a bonus.  I’m just looking forward to getting mine back and running like it should, so I can finally start to enjoy the ownership experience…..which has got off to a rather horrendous start.  Good luck😉
