New Parking brake cable for LS400 1995 to 1997

These were these days sold out or discontinued where I looked online ( extensive search). They were rare but available just 1 year back or so.
So I bought aftermarket cables intended for the later model LS400 1998 to 2000 and hoped for the best. 

It was possible to fit these with rather small effort . They looked quite ok also quality wise.

There are two simple brackets each that attach the cables to the chassi en route on reinforced sleeves on the cables.
(The old brackets were rusty but ok).

However the 1998 to 2000 cables are exactly same same except about 1 inch or 2-3 cm shorter Hence the S-curve they need to be routed is a bit different (straighter which is probably good).
This means that one needs to make some simple new brackets with a bit different shape to route the cables a bit different. My opinion is that one bracket is enough but LEXUS used two so I did too.
Route without force in smooth bends for cable to work well.
I made the brackets from stainless steel band material 20 mm wide I had laying around that I bent in a vise after some cardboard pieces tests.

Then you drill 8 mm holes for the screw. (The thread was stil ok after 25++ years).
No need to do big science of the adjustment. I put it in adjusted same same as the old cable. Worked well.

Thanks for sharing your experience @Mikaelse , may I ask from where did you find the aftermarket cables intended for the later model LS400 1998 to 2000 ? 

 

I've been struggling to find the rear right cable for my 2000 LS400, and about to do the opposite of what you've done!
