Which Dashcam is this on my NX350h?

Recommended Posts

Hi, we've recently purchased a 2022 NX350h. It appears to have had a hard wired dash cam fitted by the previous owner but we didn't receive the dashcam, maybe the last owner kept it.

Here's a pic of the base of the dash cam, do you know which make and model it may be?

Thanks

Looks like a Nextbase fitting to me, although I guess many models will look similar. Lexus offer and fit Nextbase dashcams so this does seem the most likely.

I think Malcolm’s correct.  It’s certainly the right shape.  This is the Nextbase website which might give you more information.

You don’t mention a rear camera.  If it’s not present and there's no sign of any wiring to the rear screen I would urge you to get one to connect to the front camera.

Incidentally, make sure any camera you install is wired so that it will switch to stand-by mode when the ignition is off.

I think that Halfords sells the Nextbase range so that may well be an easy way to check the model range and fitting.

Thank you both, very helpful. I noticed in the service history on the app it lists an accessory fitting before delivery so that must be it.

Will take at look Halfords and see what may be compatible with this base. I didn't notice anything for the rear but didn't pay close attention

I would check around the car… see if it’s been left in the glove box or under the boot. And also ask the dealer - often they take things out and forget to return at handover…

Thanks, good point. I will do.

When checking out suppliers, it is worth checking NextBase's own website (as linked by Len) as they often have special offers. I got the top end 622GW front and rear with high speed SD card for about the same price Lexus were charging for a fitted mid-range dashcam. Of course, I had to fit it myself but you already have the wiring by the looks of it.

Interesting, I found Nextbase have an official ebay store with refurbished units. May go for this:

If it’s an official Nextbase refurbished camera, then I would hope that you can buy with confidence.

My only observation about the item you’ve linked is that it doesn’t appear to have a rear camera.  As I mentioned before, I really would urge you to install a rear camera at the same time.  It should just plug in to the front camera and there are plenty of YT videos showing how to run the cable around the head lining.

Put simply, you’re just as likely to be hit from behind as drive into the car in front.  And possibly more likely when parked in a car park!

My Lexus was paid for by the HGV that was recorded writing off my Honda Accord - the claim was settled in full within days of his Insurer getting the videos.  It only has to happen once and the extra cost will be recouped many times over!

It's a good point, they offer a package with rear camera too on their website but don't know if I trust myself to pull apart the interior on our new (to us) car just yet. But how hard can it be hey?!

You’re right to be cautious, Amit.  I’ve only had auto electricians install my systems, but as I say there are YT videos showing how it’s done.

It may well be that you can get away with simply pushing the cable under the edge of the lining, without having to ease out the fixings.  Hopefully, someone who’s actually done it might advise!

I agree with Len that a rear camera is a good idea. I wired my own front and rear cameras and videoed what I did with the intention of editing and posting a complete install to help anybody wanting to give it a go themselves. Unfortunately, I haven't got around to it yet!

I'm unwilling to try and describe it here as the dashcam wiring did pass through areas where the side airbags are located and it is very important from a safety perspective not to interfere with their operation.
