I appreciate it’s probably early days, but I would be interested to find out if anyone has had the free Tracker fitted to their RX4, and had an insurance renewal, has it made any difference to your premium?

Hi.

When you're ready if you need any help with insurance at all then please feel free to drop me a line.

Regards,

Dan.

Thanks Dan, I did get a quote from you back in May, but you weren’t in the ball park, sorry!

I've had mine fitted along with the geofence device.  No change to insurance as Lexus STILL have not addressed the lack of encryption with a software fix, and my guess is that they won't.  The talk has been ongoing for a long time now with no evidence that they've made any efforts to safeguard the cars other than a one time use tracker.

A question please Paul if I may.

I am due to have Tracker fitted on Friday.

I am reading on some posts who have had Tracker fitted, appear to have to go into the App, every time they enter or exit the vehicle, to notify Tracker that it’s you. Is this the case, as I really cannot be arsed with that performance.

If so I will cancel

Thanks Paul

I very much doubt that's the case because the sequence is:

  • car is stolen
  • you ring Police to get a crime number
  • you ring Tracker, give them the crime reference, then they activate the device

I like the bit about ring police, because a crime number is about all you will get from that lot.

It may be referring to the Geo-fencing device that is also offered in addition to the Tracker.

Yes, it is indeed the additional geofencing device (for want of a better name) that is related to the Tracker app (I recently had both devices fitted to my NX).

@larryadler

From within the app you can set up and enable a number of geofence parameters within a desired radius (for example "Home" or "Work") and if the device detects that your car has been driven outside of these parameters, Tracker (i.e. the company) will automatically ping you an email notifying you of this (in my experience so far - normally within 5 minutes). So you would then investigate further and, if necessary, go through the steps required (as listed above by @Herbie) to get the main tracker activated. These geofences can be enabled and disabled at will via the app.

If you forget to disable a geofence and drive the car away from that location (like I do most of the time 🤷‍♂️) you will indeed get the email but this does not trigger any activity automatically at the Tracker end - it's purely a notification to you that something might be amiss (I have had this confirmed by Tracker Customer Services) - you do not need to do anything else within the app.

So I may just leave all my geofence entries enabled and deal with getting an email each time I drive away from those locations (at least I can then assure myself that the alert process is working).

I hope this helps to allay any fears that others who are new to this offering may have.

Well, had the tracker fitted ( for what it’s worth) but declined the geo-fence, fed up with apps for everything.

So now the Tracker is fitted, given that we no longer have a Police service that is remotely interested in the theft of your vehicle, who the hell is going to use any information provided by Tracker?

Does the tracker supplied via Lexus not come with tracking, guard & recovery as part of the subscription?

Once a crime reference number is obtained from the Police & provided to the tracking company they will remove your access to track the vehicle so you dont put yourself in danger.
