Hi All,

I am upgrading from my UX 250H to NX450h tomorrow. Really excited !!!

Its a used 2023 Premium plus pack model. Any advice on what sort of things that I should be checking during the hand over.

Also, thinking to get a EV charger or use 3 pin socket to charge. Understand the difference in time to charge by £1000 to install a EV charger would negate any EV savings. 

Thoughts please!

I was interested in getting an EV charger with the Lexus discount, but didn't qualify as I'm leasing the car; the full price of an EV box is just too much. I'm finding the 13A granny cable works out fine for me. Of course, a lot depends on your own personal circumstances; if you can get your daily usage on Battery alone and charge overnight then the granny cable is fine. 

Just for info, driving locally on urban and rural roads I've been getting up to 50 miles from a full charge (I suspect it will drop with heater use etc... during winter). I tend to use hybrid mode from the outset on longer journeys; on a recent trip from Northumberland to Surrey I got 50mpg both ways, driving to the speed limit.

Thank you for the reply. I will also be driving locally most of the times and occasional couple of long trips (300+miles) every month. I think I can use the Lexus Link App to schedule charging at off peak hours. I am with octopus energy so i will opt for their off peak plan. 

I will stick to 13A socket then. Bit painful but If i keep on charging every night then I guess it should be fine.

I am not sure off peak plans will necessary save money if one does not drive enough to have to put full charge every day and is not organised enough to schedule other energy-consuming processes to happen during the night.

i found that an occasional quick charge from my EV charger while having a breakfast does the trick for me. But I guess I drive on electric mostly because I like how car drives in EV mode rather than to save money…

Agreed. I'm with Octopus and looked at their off-peak options, but the increase in the peak time tariff meant it wouldn't have saved me anything.  I suspect there may be more attractive options for those with an EV charger.

I'm paying £0.2336p per kWh at the moment (not including the standing charge); the most a charge has put on my bill has been £3.70 and so I'm paying between 0.07p and 0.09p per mile at the moment.

If you figure in the use of cheap-rate electricity in dish washers, washing machines etc. it makes the picture look a bit more rosy.

I'm on the Octopus Go tariff (22.96p/8.50p) and have an Alfen Charger. Beneficial savings for me in that on average I am paying c17p kWh overall (excl standing charge). A full charge costs c£1.25 and I have achieved c50 miles in ev mode during the summer months but this falls to mid to high 30's in winter. I had the advantage of getting a free charger courtesy of Lexus as one of the early owners of the NX450h+ in 2022. Now have the RX450h+.

To add an alternate tariff and view then I’m with British Gas,  EV driver,  at  7.9p off peak/ 25.5p peak

With a beta smart charge discount (this enables British Gas to also manage the grid even on the off peak) which essentially brings it down to around 4p kWH between midnight to 5am. I have an alfen box linked to hive. The NX pulls down around 14.4kWh for a full charge, takes no more than 2.5hrs (max) and gives me a range in the mid 50’s. It costs loss than 60p to get this full charge. Essentially just over 1p per mile. I do 400miles per week and charge at each and every opportunity to top up or manage overall combined performance. Typical charge example from this week..

Thank you all for the messages. I have finally installed a EV charger with Octopus GO tariff. I will report over the months on my consumption and electric bills. With winter months coming, I am not expecting much though 🙂

I use a 3 pin charger with Octopus Go, it takes about 6 hrs to charge at about 65p to charge

I placed an order for new 450h+ and Lexus had an offer for discounted EV Wall charger (via British Gas) for £395 (reduced from £1,100).  Been toing and froing with dealer to finalise order for wall chrager only to be told that LEXUS are now putting back delivery for 450h+ to late Q1 2025 (was originally told it was late Nov 24).  Really annoyed with dealer.  Not sure if my persistence for the wall cahrger put them off - or really a production delay.

I have on order an NX450h+ from Lexus Ipswich but not been advised of any delays, regarding getting the Lexus home charger I have paid the deposit and awaiting a video talk with engineer in November, the dealer merely needs to send you an email with a link and included code to get the deal it’s as simple as that.

I got my wallbox (Alfen) fitted over two years ago by British Gas via Lexus. They may need to survey your property which in my case took about 3 hours as there was quite a bit of paperwork that they complete. Needed to know location of consumer unit, main switch, how many ceiling lights in the property, number of freezers, washing machines, tumble driers, power showers, check bonding of gas pipe etc. I also had to get the main fuse uprated by the network provider who also has to ascertain the available power in the vicinity.

Actual fitting was swift (mine is fitted in the garage) - all completed in a morning.

I used the 3 pin plug to charge my NX450+.

it worked ok for awhile, then kept blowing the fuse and finely burnt out the wall socket.

now use a charger
