Ux300e possible next car, what do i need to know?

Well i havent been here in a while 😂 old LS / CT owner.

After several years break to other brands theres a possible return to Lexus with a 2nd hand 300e in consideration 👍🏻

No particular one, id be looking to search and purchase from a dealer. Ideally under 2yrs and low mileage.

Im already a EV convert so dont need any convincing in that respect.😎 

Been out of the Lexus loop for a while so ill research here and on youtube. Is there anything else maybe from owners that would be invaluable information?

My current car is an ev so im well versed in day to day use / charging etc.

Not much to look out for. If your budget can get a newer one with the larger Battery that would be recommended. Sadly Lexus didn't update it to CCS charging, so no matter which year you get you are stuck with Chademo. 

Boot space is poor with the UX, although it is better on the 300e compared to the 250h/300h.

Note that the UXe is one of the Lexus models vulnerable to theft (Lexus was the most stolen car brand in 2023, as a percentage of vehicles on the road, because of this issue).

Lexus are now rolling out trackers and other solutions to these vehicles, but unlike the hybrid model with the 300h now using a new platform, I don’t believe the UX EV has been updated and so all models are vulnerable.

Thankyou, my budget see’s me looking at newer 2nd hand, new for what id like is unrealistic, +including and since my CT my cars have been new, mrs says im too fussy with them so need something i didn't buy new for a change lol.
Chademo , yeah got that now and id prefer to move to ccs but in real life my furthest trip outa town is one charge to get the return trip. So in reality chademo isnt a real issue for me. My current range is 156 summer / 135 winter so anything i get will be better than that. Boot space not an issue , only shopping. No kids for rear seats just me n the mrs. Tbh the only thing id really like to keep is one pedal driving. Its unfortunate the UX isnt equipped but to return to lexus i think i can live with it.

Mine is the short range version. On a full charge it says 165 miles. Which means 100 miles before you start to think you need to charge. Which means you are tied to trips if no more than 50 miles from home. Unless you can find a charger at your destination. Which doesn’t work for me.

I work 3days a week with a 12m round trip, the other 4days are just local usually with maybe a day at home. So i charge every 7-9 days at home approx. Shopping at tesco every week puts 25m approx on every week too. 
my local tesco has 4bays and one bays on free charge for the last few months 😃 but id still be in a pay bay for the better space. 

tbh i thought id have range anxiety coming from petrol but i dont even think about a charge until im around 40m remaining, then i may leave it a day if im not going far. 
Everyones needs are different i guess 👍🏻

It depends on your budget but used UXe seem very cheap compared to new. Some bargains to be had. The Takumi has all the toys etc.

i started out looking at premium plus but then looked at the takumi , for the little extra you get a lot more imo. Exeter is my nearest dealer so i’ll pay them a visit .

Obviously depends how often you change cars, how you finance etc. but there are some very cheap RZ cars around at the moment…

Far superior models yes, pushing my budget a little past comfortable though. Only really want to but from a dealer. Worth keeping an eye on though 👍🏻

Worth considering getting one outside of the Lexus dealer network as they are trying to keep prices high, and well above trade in values. If you get one under 3 years old, it would still have Lexus warranty on it, so nothing really to worry about (provided it has FSH).

Thats a good point, subject to all the usual checks FSH etc it should be ok. Ill research the RZ in more detail. 👍🏻

We have a 71 plate UX 300e (smaller battery), and are pleased with it. We bought ours second-hand from our local Lexus dealer a year ago, it came with rubber mats which I think are extremely helpful to keep the cabin/boot clean. Seats are very comfortable.

Do ensure it still has plenty of the Lexus warranty left.

For charging, we 'granny charge' ours overnight using a 3-pin plug, heavy-duty extension lead and waterproof box. It can be fully charged overnight.

Chademo is certainly not the fastest charging, but you will be used to this aspect already with zapmap or similar to find better locations which have a cafe nearby etc!

Range isn't great, but that should be reflected in the price!

Space is quite small (but we knew that before we bought it and it is our 2nd car used for local trips and commuting to work etc). Space is good in the front, and not as good in the rear (try sitting in the back.. getting in and out is a bit of a faff due to the door shape / roof-line, but once you're in it is quite good for head height and leg room - I am 5ft 11in). We can fit a baby seat in the back seat and if you fold the rear seat down the space is OK for it's class. note, there is no 'frunk' or other storage under the bonnet - this is largely taken up by air conditioning and other pipes.

The electric handbrake on ours has become VERY noisy .. so do listen out for that when you are engaging the parking brake at the end of your test drive. Otherwise, we have had no problems with our 300e.

Try and find one with seat-memory if you plan on letting anyone else drive the car.

After more research since originally posting i think id be looking for a Takumi not older than 2yrs. And ill service with Lexus to keep as much warranty as possible.

I have a home charger so charging not an issue. My current cars a 39kwh Leaf so well versed with Chademo. Tbh i only travel one charge away from a round trip so although id rather have ccs its not an issue for me. The ux has a little larger Battery so that helps.

I do need to sit in one now. The mrs hates the ionic5 5 with no centre console etc so the ux interior seems to fit the bill better. You sit in your own space. Its just the two of us , no kids, dog etc so rear space isnt a concern, any rear adults can make do lol. No frunk now so no loss there.

Ill certainley listen for the handbrake . And mrs doesent drive so just me.

My 39 gives me with a steady foot ,,,,,156m / 4.6kwh summer with 135m / 3.5kwh winter. Would you know yours roughly?

I know There are better options out there with more range more up todate screens etc, but i thunk its time to  e in a Lexus again😎

I get about 4.0 kWh in summer,  probably around 2.5 to 3.0 in winter and that is with a very light foot in eco mode.

It sounds like you are used to short range EVs and you can make them work for you. In which case The UXe will be a nice drive and a nice place to be. Shop around to get a good deal.

My experience with the kwh is the same as Paul above. I had a 2021 UXe Takumi, then changed recently to the longer range one. I agree, space in the second row isn't great. The Takumi grade doesn't seem to command a huge premium over the Premium Plus for some used examples and if you can, I'd go for the Takumi. I've found the head up display and 360 degree camera to be very useful. Neither version I've had has a memory function on the drivers seat- I don't think it's available on the electric UX. I think it's a very comfortable, high quality car and would definitely recommend one. The 10 year warranty is also good. The customer service I've had from Snows Hedge End (Southampton) has been brilliant- nothing seems too much trouble. Hope this is helpful.

One thing I don’t think has been mentioned. The petrol UX comes with run flat tyres but the electric has normal tyres and a can of gunk. Although mine came with run flats on the front and normal on the rear as it had had new tyres on the front after 12000 miles. One careful owner (me) and one careless lady owner (the dealer) before me.
