I bought some new key fob batteries via eBay recently.

I was quite surprised when I soon began 'getting' low Battery messages.

So... I 'bit the bullet' and bought some new ones again, from my local supermarket.

It was interesting to compare them.

I suspect the former were... 'un-genuine'?

I bought a couple of these from amazon ( this time of year batteries start to fail don't they? ) They were £3.50 for two duracell - genuine ones. I saw them in Tesco for £5 and Asda for a similar amount. Then I saw Kodak batteries CR2032 in poundsaver for £2 for a pair.  Kodak is a good name but I wonder how good are their batteries?  At about £1 each they seem good value for money.  BTW amazon sell them too but in larger packs.  It sounds trivial when Costa and the like are flogging a cup of coffee in one of their dingy caffs for £3.50+ Now that's a ripoff if ever I saw one.

The one of the right is definitely fake - the C in Duracell is nothing like the real font they use.

Also, when zooming in on the one on the right, it says 'madeinchna' no i in China.

Unless it's my eyesight!

Energizer and duracell are the better of the mainstream brands, but Tronic from Lidl, amazon basics and Ikea cells are good value for money.  If you are really worried about your cell dying, just keep a space cell in the under floor storage in the boot, or in the glove box or centre console.  Use physical key to enter, and replace the cell.  Temperatures of 0c to 30c are fine for Lithium cell storage.  I'm a paranoid git, so I always have a spare in my car, a spare at home, and a spare at work, as my digital calipers and one of my logic probes also run from a cr2032.
