A little confused as I have seen a few "sport" models but they seem a little different to the F-sport.

Apart from missing the "F" inside the car in few places are there any other differnced?

Thanks

The F Sport was near the top of the trim levels with different body styling and some suspension, tyre upgrades, sliding dash dial etc. The Sport is simply a few body kit bits (Inc black wheels and door mirrors) on what is one of the lower level trims. The F Sport has some unique tangible upgrades that some people value but the Sport didn't really offer anything over and above any other trim level - it was more of a marketing ploy.

Thanks for that.

I've seen one, may go for it. Was advertised as having a reverse camera but it doesn't have it. Not a massive issue though.

The F Sport carry a premium as it has unique features in the IS line up. Nothing wrong with the Sport (if you like the black wheels and mirrors look) but don't pay a premium for it over and above any other model with the same features.

The one I was looking at was 2016, 47k £13,700. 2 owners Full Lexus history. It's with a Lexus dealer and they have thrown the 2 year service plan as well

Like I said I would have liked reverse camera and heated steering wheel and also full leather but I've been looking for a while now and I really didn't want to spend more than £13k. I know I'm restricted with that budget.

There was a 2015, 60k executive for around £12k. Full Lexus service history but a private sale. I was a bit reluctant purchasing privately but that had full leather and a reverse camera

I have the Executive and it doesn't have a reverse camera and there was never an option to have it as an option on that age Executive trim - unless someone has fitted one aftermarket. Given your budget there's going to be a trade off between higher spec and price - personally at the age of car you are looking for I would favour the car with the best history over spec.

I Have an F sport. It certainly ain't sporty and it definitely isn't an F.  But I like it anyway.

A bit like these BMW M whatevers, not real M cars, and Mercedes AMG and sport-lines etc. All fur coat and no knickers?

Yeah that makes sense, thanks.

Oh I forgot to mention and I know its a bit risky from my part but the car is about 300 miles away in Scotland. I'm buying it without seeing it but they are delivering it for free.

That's good to know, thanks. I wasn't to keen on the Sport or F-sport to be honest. I just wanted one with Full Lexus service history, full leather and reverse camera but sometimes we have to compromise I guess

If I was you Id go for a post-facelift model (2017 onwards) as I believe some bits were improved and it looks more current..
This car feels quite big from the inside when parking (at least to me) and the reverse camera is a life saver, I'd not give up on having it...

Well I was in 2 minds, 3 minds and 4 minds. Eventually the Mrs pushed me into putting a deposit down.

For some reason I'm still not 100% convinced. Have I made a big mistake in buying a car without seeing it? the car is over 300 miles at a Lexus dealership

I was going to make the payment (bank transfer) tomorrow but the biggest thing bugging me is not having seen the car. Only watched the video that was sent to me.

I did ask the sales chap via email a couple of times what if the cosmetic damage you've mentioned that you will sort out isn't sorted out when the car is delivered or what if there is other damage to the car etc but twice he's completed ignored that part.

Does anyone know if this sale falls into the distance selling act?

I fitted a camera last week to mine & its so much easier to park 😄 Without it, the back end felt so much closer to things that it actually was and the parking sensors go nuts so early

Considering the carefulness you have shown so far in selecting a car and how precise you have been on what you want, its surprising you have bought on sight unseen from 300 miles away. I really hope it does work out this time though 🙂

I think the law says that if you buy something online, you have the right to return & refund if not satisfied, but im not a lawyer...
The fact they didnt address direct questions (ignored) is a red flag.

Putting down a deposit to reserve the car is fine. I wouldn't recommend buying it without actually seeing it. Lexus dealer or not sometimes things arent what you expect. At the very least i would recommend organising an independent inspection with AA or similar and ask them to check the underside and also take photos to point out flaws in the interior exterior etc.. Especially since you're buying a car from Scotland those cars get exposed to a lot of road salt and rust really fast. Also i think it would fall under distance selling but best to clarify with the dealership if they're fine if you reject the car in case of anything glaringly unacceptable. Also if there are small issues normally the dealership say come to us and we will fix it which in your case wont be possible because of the distance.

I blame the Mrs 😂 she finally got fed up and said if you don't do it I will. That was enough me to make a decision, hopefully not a rash one.🙂

If you don't mind me asking where did you purchase the reverse camera from and what was the installation like? did you do it yourself or you got someone to do it?

Thanks

Found it on eBay for just over £100.

Installation was OK, nerve wracking taking a Dremel to a car I've only owned for 2 weeks though. All of the wiring is already there so its plug and play, Just need to remove pretty much all of the boot trim and rear light units. Then cut a hole in the boot lid and then another hole in the plastic boot finisher thingy (the hole is already marked in this one) although I am checking eBay and Yahoo auctions daily for one in white just so its a bit more factory 🤣

Wow I am definitely not brave  enough to do that

Its not too bad, just cut a little bit at a time. Once the panel is back on you cant see where its been cut and where it has been cut, I've put a bit of epoxy primer and covered it over with touch up paint to stop it rusting from the inside out 🙂

I fit an aftermarket camera to my exec variant without having to drill holes etc. The aftermarket one plugged in to the factory wiring loom so it kicks in when you put the car in reverse and appears on the factory screen. Here is the thread on it if you're interested.

Great work. Would this still work on the "sport" model ? It does have the navigation system

I don't see why not. As long as it has the factory loom in the boot and it has a navigation system

I'll ring up Lexus to find out whether having a reverse camera voids the warranty. If it does then we may avoid this.

Thanks for this.

I tried going on the link for your camera but it doesn't exist anymore

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0C69N4BMQ?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

What was the brand? I'd rather look into something that's been tried and tested like yours if possible

Seems like thats no longer sold. Something like this should work instead it looks pretty similar.  Basically you want to avoid an AHD camera those done work on our system. You need CVBS. You can just use double sided acrylic tape to stick the metal frame of the camera in the space between the numberplate lights.
