insurance policy - your job title

Recommended Posts

Most insurers are looking for your occupation so someone could legitimately be a a company director or an accountant for example, so there will be instances that some may be able to legitimately choose which they use.
looking at the tool a “Surveyor” pays more than a “Chartered Surveyor”  as an example

No insurance company has had my exact job title for any of my roles in the last ten years. It has always been the case of trying to find something in their system that vaguely matches. Doesn’t help that every insurance company seems to have a different list.

I've had this same issue and have always had to pick the closest job. This year, insurance companies have finally started listing my job title as an option - when price checking between the 2 titles, my real title comes out £100 a year cheaper

I have now retired but still occasionally pilot commercial aircraft (Airbus A319/320/321).

I will check to see if this reduces my premium as I spend more time in the air than on the road.

Although will I have to mention that all of my flying is done on a flight simulator in the man shed?

Nothing really new, for long time insurance was scamming people for such irrelevant things (for driving ability) like their occupation.

Just choose the cheapest title with closest match where within reason one could argue it is close enough. One should never lie on the policy, but should be as economical with truth as possible - insurance is out there to scam you out of you money, why should anyone be completely honest with them?

Found this handy tool on Martin Lewis website where you can see if your job title is making your premium higher. big eye opener as some are half the cost of other professions.

Very interesting. I work for an MSP and my official title is Technical Consultant. However if I were to put myself down as a Systems Manager, because that's effectively what I do for most of my clients, it would "save" me £220/year!
