Problem with both wing mirrors not moving "In" and "Out"

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I have been using this forum a lot since I bought my IS250 a while ago. So far, I always managed to find the information I needed and I have always been impressed with the level of help and advice you can find here.

I am writing with an issue I have with my IS250 (2007). I have problems with my wing mirrors. When I press the control buttons on the driver’s door, I can move the mirrors up and down but I cannot move them in and out. I thought it might be something to do with the fact that when my wife parks the car, she needs the mirrors to go all the way down. I though they probably popped out of their sockets. Finally, I found a quiet time and removed the driver’s side mirror. I can hear and see the mirror controlling the up-down motion moving but the one regulating in-out was not. At that point it occurred to me that the issue is the same for both mirrors so I decided to clean the contacts on the door control. Dismantling the switch was a bit fiddly but I managed it. Unfortunately, the problem was still there. I ordered a second hand (apparently working) switch from eBay. It arrived today but unfortunately same issue . As I was trying it on in the car without an engine on it was quiet and I could hear some clicking noise that comes from the passenger door when I press the in-out buttons but mirrors are not moving. Is that clicking noise a relay in the door controlling the in-out motor? Is it possible both motors to give ghost at the same time? Or are the in-out motors on a separate fuse than up-down ones (unlikely in my opinion). I found some similar topics, one showing dismantling the whole mirror, removing and cleaning the motors but I just wanted to seek an opinion before I commit to this intervention.

Hope you can help!

Thanks in advance
