How tot change water pump and remove the belt

Recommended Posts

Hi, does anyone have a tutorial on how to change the water pump and belt on a Lexus is300h hybrid? I'm particularly interested in how to remove the belt and replace it with a new one, I looked for a tutorial on YouTube but I didn't find anything, there are 2 pulleys of different sizes and a simple belt between them, there was no tensioner from what I noticed, thanks

Thanks for the answer, it doesn't cost much and I'm going to change it, in the pictures you posted I can see how it's removed, but how do you put it back on?

Purchase this tool it's a 10 min job all in just to do the belt.

Haven't done the water pump yet but again it's very accessible once the belt is off. Key is to ensure the bleed procedure is completed by putting the car into maintenance mode to let the engine run to prevent an air lock.

Here are all the details you need including torque specs for the bolts. Just remember to tighten the new waterpump in a star pattern. Should be a very straightforward job.

Also here is a thread where someone has done this themselves in the past

Similar to how you would put a chain back on a bicycle. Put the belt on the crank pulley and around the top of the other pulley as far as it will go and then rotate the crank pulley using a wrench (the same as when you remove it) to force the belt over the top of the pulley. Just make sure it is seated centrally on the pulley when on.
