Hello everyone

I would like to ask you a few questions since I am considering the purchase of a Lexus LBX (Elegant).
1) Is it possible to disable the keyless function (I'm not interested in using it)? If so, can it be done from the car directly or can only the dealer do this operation? I would like to save on Battery consumption and minimize safety risks.
2) In the event that the 12V service Battery runs out, can a jump starter be used to open the doors and start it or do I need to recharge it? Once in ready mode then will the 12v Battery recharge? I would use the car mainly every weekend not using it from Monday to Friday. Would I be at risk in your opinion?
3) Do you think it could be a model at risk of theft? I was considering Lexus insurance (as an alternative to other cheaper insurances) but it is really very expensive and I don't know if it is worth it.
4) last one 🙂 I read in the Google Play Store many negative reviews about the Lexus Link+ App. Are they true? How do you get on with the app?

Thank you all
PS.

1 - yes it can be disabled from the car directly.

2 - you would need to unlock the door using the mechanical key, open the bonnet and use the jump terminal to either use a jump starter or charge the Battery. Using a jump starter to get into Ready mode and then letting the car charge the 12v Battery is fine.

3 - The LBX is not at risk of the current method used to steal older Lexus models. No need to use Lexus insurance - they don't provide any benefits over other companies.

Thanks for your reply.

In case of an accident, my insurance requires that the repair be carried out at one of their authorized centers (otherwise a 20% deductible is applied). In this case, is there a risk of losing the warranty on the car or the hybrid system? Has anyone had any experiences with this? Do you think it is better to take it to the dealership for repairs in case of an accident (at least during the first years of the warranty)?

Not all insurance companies do this, something I check on the policy terms & conditions before buying. Even without a 20% deductible insurance companies always imply you have to use their repairers, which you don’t.

Most companies pitch using their body shops as a convenient solution however I’ve come across a fair few people who have had really shoddy repairs via this route so will only use Lexus approved repairers.

If you are in the EU, or your country adopts EU regulations, then the motor vehicle block exemption regulation prevents Lexus from withholding their initial 3 year manufacturer warranty provided any work performed was by a competent person using parts of similar quality to original - this is the reason why you don't have to use Lexus for servicing to maintain the initial warranty and it applies to repair work too. Lexus are required by law to make their special tools, repair manuals, diagnostic equipment and parts available to third party repairers.

Having said that, you would be more confident that work carried out would be done correctly and with all original parts if you used a Lexus dealer - you need to decide if the extra cost of Lexus insurance is worth it.

I would agree with this completely…with but one proviso.

If the repair was primarily bodywork - and more than just replacing a panel - then I would take it to a bodywork specialist.  Indeed, I have done!

Even the best Dealership is not going to match a specialist body shop.  In fact I’m pretty sure that many of them contract out this kind of work.

Indeed. Most if not all wouldn't have spray booths etc.

My local dealer subs out all sorts of work - paint/dents (both major work and smart repairs), wheel refurb, tyre fitting, wheel alignment, leather seat upholstery, windscreen fitting. But they would insist that genuine Lexus parts are used and up to Toyota repair standards.

When I needed bodywork repairs to a previous car I asked the service department at my Lexus dealer who is their approved repair specialist and they told me. Work was carried out to a very high standard.
