I'd like to take a look under the (bonnet) black 'sound deadening' mat(?), but don't want to damage it or these black plastic 'lugs'?

Is there a secret technique or tool or method to use?

I would love to know, from those more enlightened than me...please.

Hi

Would normally use a 'trim removal tool'. A flat blade screwdriver may also work.

As @HPS13 suggested, you need a set of these.

Trim Removal Tools

I have them and they work pretty well, for your use, use the forked one.

Thank you.

I'm guessing the thin, fork shaped one?

Correct 😊

Even with the right tool they don’t always come out in one piece.  They’re designed to be single use and have tangs facing back.  You might do better if the engine has warmed the bonnet.

The thing is that if they don’t come out in one piece the cost of original replacements won’t ruin you but nevertheless be intrinsically exorbitant.

I don’t think the OP is going to find anything interesting under the sound proofing except the underside of the bonnet, but maybe I’m missing something 🤔

I was curious to see if there was potential space for additional sound deadening...

Ahh, that explains it 😄

They’re fairly standard trim studs.  Just have a few by you.

Did it...

( I found the plastic tool just bent, but a metal ended one was perfect. )

Thank you for the help everyone.

Well... as you can see, not much to see.

The sound deadening under the bonnet, is hidden by the cover. As it should be I think...

Not that the engine is noisy, I just like to add 'extra' to make it quieter...

It's a great car.

Do you feel it has made a difference?

Yes... but it is very subjective.

I had ( still have ) a Toyota IQ. A tiny car. I added a lot of sound deadening and it is certainly quieter.

With the UX I have added it to the bonnet, floor, boot area. It feels quieter and I do like quiet cars. Though listen to music too.
