3rd Gen GS rear camera upgrade

Hi All,

A week into GS450h ownership and still loving it! I'm still waiting to find the time to fit the GROM CarPlay box but one thing I'd like to try and improve is the quality of the reverse camera.

I know the resolution of the screen isn't great and we're talking about 20 year old technology here (I've been spoiled by driving the latest gen ES, NX, RX and RZ over the last year with their MASSIVE screens and HD cameras) but mine is a little blurry especially on one side. 

I assume this is down the the lens either being scratched or the seal going bad - I've tried to clean it but it hasn't made a difference. 

I'm worried about getting a second hand one off eBay as even the best one is still going to be 15 years old so there's no guarantee a used replacement would be any better, and a standard part is a little more than I'm wanting to spend at the moment.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this camera specifically? The ad claims it's a direct swap for the factory camera but should hopefully be a lot crisper. It also comes with some cable adapters so I can't see any reason why I couldn't wire it to my standard camera's plug rather than having to run the new wires.

 

Any advice or experience is greatly appreciated, would be fantastic to get a nice crisp image back on the screen!
