Thinking of a year old NX450 Premium Plus and two doubts ...

Recommended Posts

I read a lot about two drawbacks that are putting me off, are they really a problem?

1 - the 12v Battery getting dischared easily. How much of an issue is it? If you put in Ready mode whenever you're sat in it will it be OK?

2 - the tyres on the 20" wheels. Is it really so hard to get replacements? I'm not worried about planned replacements due to wear, but I don't want to get a puncture say just before holiday and find I can't more than 50 miles over the next few days/weeks.

What's your experiences?

Thanks

I ran an NX450h+ for two years (and a NX300H for 4 years before that) and never had an issue with the 12v Battery even during lickdown when the car barely moved.

Regards the run flat tyres I wasn't a great believer bit did have a puncture at speed on a motorway (nearside rear tyre) and was thankful that I could continue my journey uninterrupted albeit at reduced speed. Called my Lexus dealer (Lexus Edinburgh) en route and was with them one hour later to get the tyre examined. It wasn't repairable as a commercial vehicle tyre valve had penetrated the tyre tread. A new tyre was fitted ex dealer stock and I continued my journey. The tyre wasn't cheap however!

Re the 12v Battery, it did cause me a couple of issues but entirely my own fault for not reading the manual correctly. One you know its limitations and work arounds it’s fine, you just need to understand how the hybrid system works and not expect a 12v Battery the size as in a Range Rover.

Ive never had a problem with the run flats, I always carry a tyre plugger in the boot for those “just in case” moments.

Had my 450h now for 2 years after switching from a RX450h which I had for 5 years

12v - After 2 call outs to the AA in 2023 with a flat Battery I put the car in ready mode if loading or cleaning the car with doors open. I also carry a NOCO Boost GBX 45 in the glove box. Problem solved.

Tyres. Puncture in Feb 2023 took 5 days to get replacement from Asda at £294. Will change to Michelin Cross Climate 2 non run flats and a compressor in the autumn. Problem solved and will save me approx £400.

I agree with Paul and Ken re 12v. Learn how the system works, which is different from all ICE cars I have owned before,  Stay in READY all the time - even when cleaning the car, loading/unloading (my Battery went from 45 to 75% state of charge in 30 minutes of cleaning today). Fit a Bluetooth Battery momitor for peace of mind, which cost less than £20 and  carry a Battery booster (just in case).  Also bear in mind that most EV/PHEVs have similar issues, regardless of manufacturer, particularly with low mileage users.

Can't help with the tyre question.

Have had my car nearly one year, no Battery issues. All been absolutely fine (unlike my partner’s Yaris).

Not had to replace the tyres yet, so can’t help there.

I would very much recommend a NX 450h+ Premium Plus! Great cars.

Had my premium plus since June 23 and never had any issue with the 12v Battery and I don’t go into ready mode when cleaning / loading.  Do get lots of messages on app regarding multiple doors open …..

not had a puncture so cannot comment on tyres. - I am old school and would have preferred  normal tyres and a jack but

think this is a great car with my only niggle being the sat nav

I have had my NX for nearly a year and no issues as yet.

Certainly if I am in the car stopped, it remains in ready mode. I don't bother with ready mode when washing etc. and haven't had a problem.

I have left the car unused for over 3 weeks and again, no problems.

I don't know about the tyres. It would be worth asking your dealer if they can get tyres easily.

Good luck 😀

I am now on my second NX450h+ Premium Plus.

I've not had any issues with the 12v Battery and I don't put it in ready when loading or anything else. Having had a problem with the 12v Battery when I had a Mitsubishi Outlander Phev I bought and still carry a power pack. So far in nearly 2.5 years I've not had to use it. Note to self - must give it a charge 😁

On tyres, I was grateful for the run flat when I had a puncture on my way to visit my Dad in palliative care in hospital - it meant I didn't have to get dirty changing the tyre, or hang about for the roadside assistance, as time was of the essence that day!

The next day I took the car to Lexus Leeds and they fitted a new tyre from stock. The original wasn't repairable. This was Feb '24.

In April I had a puncture (on the new car) and I got that repaired at my local tyre place.

I've taken out the Lexus Tyre & Alloy insurance on both cars and it has been an easy claim process (but read & followed the instructions before getting the tyre changed/repaired!)
