Sad to say, nothing has changed since the sixties.

Blimey, Child Benefits ……. don’t remember much about those …… my eldest ‘ child ‘ is 50 next month and the others not far behind 🤣😂

HMRC has made it simple they tell me to keep all my tax / income affairs on track and urging one to complete it all as early as possible …….. I shall obey of course …… like all good simple tax obedient souls in the UK

My OAP State Pension covers my E5  V8 4ltr ( and more ) fuel costs ……. should it cover more. ? 😇

Seriously tho’. I’m quite distraught with people cheating with their HMRC stuff

It’s unfair and a drain on Society …… and Expenses for MPs and Prime Ministers do need to be fairly met, of course, from the Public Purse AND if other benefactors can give our PM free “ working “ clothes and tickets to football matches, well, so be it

Snout in the trough however comes to mind …….

our PMs Socially Aware Socialist colleagues will see the subtlety of it all and there will doubtless be a “ day of reckoning “ by said colleagues and society at large

In the interim however

WINTER FUEL PAYMENT

Just to update you Malc from the MSE site

"Child Benefit is a monthly payment for anyone with parental responsibilities for children under the age of 16 (or up to 20 in full-time education). It's worth claiming as it can be worth over £17,000 (or more if you've two or more children). We've full detail on how it works, how to claim, and what happens to the Child Benefit payment if you or your partner earn more than £60,000 a year." how lucky are you not to have any qualifying 🙂

Behavioural Psychology may be the best tool  kit we have for understanding why people do what they do. I mention this because if a means tested pension were to ever make it off the table what do you think happens to the way people view NIC's? The fact is NIC's are already a 'means test', because the more you earn the higher NIC's you will have paid in your life, but that still only entitles you to the same state pension.

I almost wish they really would try to launch means testing on state pensions. They would be so absorbed trying to stop the following implosion they would probably not try to make any other major policy changes. Win win, they would lose on the issue and be prevented from doing anythingelse of note. Come on guys let's dangle the bait and invite it. Majority what majority when half the labour MP's are fighting the other half in order to placate their constituents. Gosh almost sounds like the Tory party.

That’s exactly why I took a generous 4.5 times redundancy offer ( tax free 😀) after working full time for over 45 years and finished at 62. I got enough full years NI contributions in to get the Full State Pension and contrbuting another 4 years would not increase the pension.

Careful joint investments and private/ company pension drawdowns plus our income tax  allowances  mean I haven’t paid another penny in Income tax since.

My State Pension becomes payable in March 2025 ( if the age doesn’t go up!) which obviously is classed as income so I’m presently working around that to legally avoid paying anything to HMRC out of my income.

VAT and other taxes like fuel “ duty” can’t be avoided easily I but saved myself £10.00 VAT today on a cash sale.

Alf Garnett 👏👍👏…….. and Tony Booth great actor alongside with  brilliant Socialist Principles emerging there 👏

father-in-law to Tony Blair even

Many OAPs sure had it rough too in the 1960’s and right up til then …… from whenever thru the Wars and post war Britain deprivations for most ……. and continuing for several millions OAPs now too ……..

Clothes banks and Food banks await  with Council and Charity run Warm Spaces   …….. and now with great impact on the spending power of several million OAPs this now cancelled WINTER FUEL PAYMENT is an absolute LIFELINE that’s absolutely necessary for winter survival for many

Its so important that this number have now signed the

AGE. UK.   Petition

524,708     Signatories

Unfortunately, Steve, you sound exactly like Ratchel Reeves’ next target!  😢

To me it was clear that Sir Keir Shyster and his gang of halfwits in his cabinet would simply be out to (1) feather their own nests, and (2) do what their masters told them to do.

Hence I never considered voting for them.

I disagree on this issue. For example, would you have thought the very popular Maggie Thatcher would have to resign? She picked the wrong fight. This issue is also the wrong fight.

Agree, this is the wrong fight and shows either an arrogance or a stunning naivety.

Actually I think it’ll be scandal that gets him. The problem with such public pronouncements about being without fault is that your own greed and incompetence comes back to bite…

https://news.sky.com/story/sir-keir-starmer-declares-gifts-and-freebies-totalling-more-than-100-000-the-highest-of-any-mp-13217287

Sky News spent a good ten minutes on this story yesterday evening when it broke - a bit too late for the newspapers today but the weekend might be pretty brutal ahead of Labour Conference next week.

Sky noted that even ‘Starmer loyalists’ were starting to distance themselves from him over this, and Sue Gray was firmly in the firing line (formally ethics advisor, what a farce).

Funny thing though. The BBC news hasn’t really covered the story. How very strange…🤔

" If I don't accept a gift of hospitality, I can't go to a game."

Excuse me, if some pensioners don't get their WFA they can't keep warm, what unbelievable hypocrisy!

perhaps the Govt could open some Starmer PM Cabinet,  Grace and Favour   houses to   OAPs   as Warm Centres this winter .....  to congregate from the rigours of cold

Dorneywood and  Chevening  for instance   👍

Unfortunately, even if he were to lose the leadership who would be his replacement....Angela 'The Rave' Rayner ! Out of the fire into the furnace comes to mind. What we (not labour voters) need is not a new leader to the Labour party, but a new govt in office. Only then can we stop  clutching our wallets. I might even cancel my application for retirement status in Rwanda.

Cheap way to go using govt pre paid flights that are no longer full of bottoms on seats.🤨

Not a foreigner. My ancestor Sir Slaver Lot was granted 'key' status in 1769 for his services to the economy.

Petrol is £0.93 per litre.

That's impressive. Shame many still ride bycycles. Bet it's hard getting donkeys to drink petrol.
