Kier says you are "not a working man" if you drink whiskey.

It’s a bizarre criterion on which to base fundamental political decisions.  But to put it in perspective, this was the man who had a problem defining a woman!

In truth I may have deliberately misquoted him, but I won't apologise for it as his source statement was every bit has silly.

Has there ever been such a vociferous Petition in size criticising the ineptitude and evil thinking of a standing ( joke of a) Government  🤔

Well I heard Reeves refusing to define a ‘working person’ during this week’s PMQs, so she and Starmer appear to have painted themselves into a corner by relying on what they thought was probably a rather clever obfuscation!

As I type this, the BBC News @ 6 is running an item on this very point.  Another ‘foot in mouth moment’ that will come to haunt them both, I suspect.

Well, there’s the majority of the 11.4million OAPs that aren’t working people as a starter !

Clearly we deserve to be financially clobbered coz we’ve all probably lived too long, or going to hopefully, and many of us benign asset rich with our homes, benefitting from the DWP largesse that’s a big lump of Chancellor Reeves £22/40 billion, on-going, and growing Black Hole

We should have known. If the PM can't define what a single word "woman" is you have no chance with two words 😕

Ho ho, in our case he his right.

He is maybe correct! That's how the Americans and Irish spell it 😀, so you must be over there and not over here 🤔

20 years ago the Countryside Alliance managed to field 400,00 + marching protesters in London against Tony Blair's government being anti rural. Not clear it achieved a great deal except to ensure a change of government next time around.

I’ve some doubts that the more aged OAPs would have the physical wherewithal to March and descend on Downing Street nor Parliament

Rachel Reeves Queen of Thieves certainly hedged her bets in beating-up the OAPs as the first act of Evil she did against us, me anyway …… I suppose if I marched on Downing Street relying on my walking stick I’d be the first to be arrested and charged with violent disorder brandishing an offensive weapon with intent ( to walk 😂)

Heaven forfend ……. and I’m Apolitikal too

It might be more of a shuffle than a march! I'm not convinced 2 million pensioners on a shuffle/march would have any effect on this tunnel vision government. Every day that passes is one day less to the next general election, let's hope people learn from this, although I fear there's more to come!

You raise an interesting point, Malcolm.

If the new administration feels that the problem is that many of us are now living too long, then how does that equate with their claim that the previous lot has been responsible for degrading ‘Our NHS’?

On the other hand, it may reveal the true thinking behind the reason for ending the WFP.

Now, I don’t regard myself as a vindictive person, but I am now minded to do my best to out live this Labour Government - out of sheer spite!  😡

Yes I did read about this

Some judge somewhere gonna get sat upon and fired no doubt ……… how dare anyone take this stance ……. unless the Scottish Govt is prepared to deal with all the Reparation Costs of clansmen descending on England centuries past and beating up any of my forbears and shipping em off to the Americas when it was simply an uninhabitable British Colony …….. before they were convicts and exiled to the Australian outback ……..

Hope this couple win ……. If they do they’ll be forever in our thoughts as we limber up Downing Street on our half million strong OAP super shuffle 🤣😂

To be fair I am sick and tired of the relentless drip, drip of possible bad tidings regarding the Budget! Why the hell is this allowed? I know why it's done - to provide a bellwether response in order that they can then cherry-pick the bad items from the shockingly bad items! All it really does is give time for the News Channels to whip us all into a frenzy of financial fear and can result in desperation in some poor folks.

The one 'leak' I expected and still expect is that at some time Pensioners are going to be hit with NI! The excuse will be that we need to pay for the NHS and Elderly care - who the hell are they kidding? Just go to Leicester Royal A&E and count the old (over 66) against the young - I guarantee it will be 10 young for every old person. It's the same as "Your Pension is not Taxable" - it darn well is and is just another way of milking the last few drops from our straining bank accounts.

I could go on but if I do my blood pressure will rise and there is no chance of an emergency GP appointment I suppose!

Charles we all I’m sure concur with your sentiments

The Gross Incompetence of Starmer and Reeves decrying the UK fiscal position on Day One in Govt set the scene for the downward spiral in the hearts and minds of the British Public and especially OAPs with cancelling the WFA …….. the effect, the instant stop spending of the British Public …… in their minds, just in case ..,…. and the devastation that has caused very many small businesses already “ on the brink “ ……. the Public stopping spending

Gross Incompetence fiscally by Starmer and Reeves with “Joe Public”  shoved aside to wonder wot on earth might happen in making their challenging financial positions much WORSE ……. in this upcoming, full of fear, Budget

That’s the current situation for millions of Joe Public right now …… WORRY WORRY WORRY 🥵

If the so called triple lock continues, and the threshold before you pay tax doesn't rise, and they seem to be keeping that as low as possible, it won't be long before the state pension is taxed. But surely that wouldn't ever happen would it.......

Speaking of Charles, King Charles that is where is he on this? I understand the constitutional position of the Monarchy but maybe it is time he ventured an opinion? If the impact assessment is true vis a vis WFA then he surely cannot stand by and do nothing, can he? 🤔

Posted

I share a name with HM but that's it. Happily, I am not a monarchist and believe the many should not have to pay for the few, worthy or not, to have a life of opulence. The only saving grace imho is that we'd end-up with some ar**hole like Starmer bigging himself up as 'President' - we really would!

Fear not, Phil.

He may be a pensioner, but as a State Employee I expect he qualifies as a “working man’ and will therefore still receive his WFA.

Mind you, I understand that Buck House is a devil to heat at the best of times, so no doubt a few extra quid (as he might say) would not go amiss.

Buck House …….. remembering in a past career,  new business mode I and my business partner, we reviewed the heating boilers both there and at Windsor Castle ……. monster monster boiler rooms but at the fore of our late  Queen’s thoughts was to rationalise and make better the energy efficiencies of those Palaces  …….. not a lot we could do at that time BUT Windsor was a different kettle o’fish coz the opportunity to harness the Thames tidal reach there 👏👏👏

The Royals have in our lifetimes been great advocates of being EnergyWise and very sensible in that regard 👍👍👍

I quite admire their resilience in this modern world with crud being spread all over all they and we “ survey”

So the WFA would be an integral part of Charles thought processes I'm quite certain and no doubt he’s horrified at the several thousands of deaths predicted by Starmer and Reeve’s Evil Actions upcoming
