19 k on work clothes?? Reminds me of French Macron with 9k a month for his hairdresser. Seems roman times are still here. Personally i do find it bizarre that cost cuttings/ savings are done by targeting the elderly ESPECIALLY by a left wing government that will defend the weak by nature. I am not living in the UK and as such do not see a solution to the political situation but oh boy this sounds bad.  On another note the NHS. Look at the financials and the number of people using it. It is unsustainable with the current finances. In the netherlands we pay some 130 euros per month for this. The weak are supported. And even here its very very complicated

Anybody with a brain knows that the for the NHS to survive we need to adopt the European contributory model. The only reason we have not done so yet is because it is such a hot political potato and no one todate has wanted to make it happen. The reality is the NHS and indeed our whole approach to social care for that matter got hijacked decades ago and it has morphed into something that was simply never envisaged when it was introduced.

^^ I find it fascinating that politicians can clearly see such issues when they are in Opposition, but once they get into power the money, expenses and ability to ‘bend’ rules for their own financial benefit makes them blind.

I’ve already noted how large sections of the media continue to fawn over Starmer’s fantastic ‘judgement’ as well as his ‘ethics’ and even ‘messianic destiny’ (Andrew Marr, what were you thinking 🤣). It’s that ‘my father was a toolmaker’ claptrap again.

However, it’s becoming clear that his judgement is poor. The Winter Fuel Allowance has created a storm I don’t actually think he thought would be this severe. I’ll bet Labour thought this would be a couple of days of noise, then it would be forgotten. That’s poor political judgement.

Then there’s the cronyism allegations, following on so rapidly from gaining power promising to ‘clean up’ politics. That’s poor political judgement too, and shows a level of contempt for both the truth and the electorate.

Next, the donations used for his clothes and those for his wife. How on earth did he expect the public to react to an entitled and wealthy couple taking money like that while at the same time cutting the WFA for pensioners receiving a state pension as low as £11,500 a year? That’s poor ethical judgement. On this subject, fair play to Labour MP Rosie Duffield, who posted on X the story that Starmer may face an investigation over this issue with only the word ‘Change’ as her heading. Bravo!

I could go back to his poor moral judgement at holding a pizza and beer event while COVID restrictions were in place. Anybody with a moral compass can see that event wasn’t really necessary - PR people like to speak about ‘optics’ - but Starmer did it anyway, evidently considering himself untouchable. He got away with it, but it was still questionable judgement.

Finally, the recruitment of Sue Gray. That’s poor ethical judgement, as she - and Labour officials - broke Civil Service policies and standards. She would likely have been sanctioned but left the service to join Labour. 

I’m afraid that, rather than the boring and stable Prime Minister we were told we’d be getting, we’ve instead got a liar with judgement at least as poor as others in recent history. He himself said that Boris Johnson had “…an uncomfortable relationship with the truth.” Karma is a funny thing, Sir Keir…🤔😂😇

NHS is miraculous …… it keeps inventing amazing new stuff to keep us Oldies going going going ……. and then when we’re actually gone, maybe 10 or 15 years after our norm life expectancy ……. the State, for us, no longer has to provide the NHS nor Social Care nor DWP pensions nor benefits and nor, most importantly, that damnably irritating

I hadn’t realised the financial benefits that Labour MPs had received from the Unions …….. seems odd that no-one’s brought this up before now ……. and so long after the £9bn part of the BlackHole has been allotted to the above inflation pay rises handed out to various members of Trades Unions whatever 

……. our Prime Minister must surely have some greater explaining to do to justify the

With the emerging potential clothes scandal ……. enabling comparative wealthy Socialists and wives ( one or more somewhere in the woodwork )  in Public Office  to flaunt expensive “ clothes gifts “ from benefactors …….. when impoverished OAPs are being beaten remorselessly and oft using the charity Clothesbanks ( and Foodbanks ) ……. I’m thinking there’ll be lots more public approbation and well deserved criticism of “ Our Public Servants “  on large incomes, expense accounts and “ Gifts Galore “ …….

Are we familiar with the concept "empire building"? In this case when it is applied to people and groups rather than countries. In my life I have seen Govt take ever greater control over the people of the country and in so doing politicians have been "empire building" and this seems to have happened regardless of party. These days I think of "government" and "politics" has more of a business than anything. It's primary concern appears to me to be one of seeking out growth for the prosperity of those involved in it. Only is it a secondary consideration that the people they are governing might actually get what they are paying for. The huge problem with this is that politicians are the key holders to this activity. They grant themselves ever greater power and has far as I can see no one has the ability to put a check on them and say no more. It is one ever growing trough and it's like having first dibs on Santas Xmas Sack.

Stephen, I really quite seriously think there’ll be a short shrift cumuppence ……. I find it inconceivable that the TUC and/or encompassed Unions will enable any of this to rest in peace this coming winter …….

I’ve been digging out some footings for a new garden wall and have come across a seam of coal.

I now have quite a stack on the barbecue which I am going to bring into the house and light when it gets cold.

Fortunately, Starmer and Reeves are not Lexus owners and so will not pick up on your interesting way of staying warm in Winter.

A bit of vigorous, outdoor activity - coupled with a few extra layers of sweaters and/or cardigans -  should render additional monetary payments unnecessary.  

Certainly better than having us idling about watching daytime TV - and with the possible added benefit of hastening the reduction of Pensioners in the first place!

What’s not to like?

Things are happening, I have now hired a mini digger to extract the coal and the pile is growing.

My plan is to now remove the V8 and convert the car to steam, I have calculated that if the boot is filled with coal I will have a range of around 250 miles…..better than most EVs.

Apparently steam powered vehicles do not pay any road tax saving me around £300.00 a year….what a coincidence that’s the same as the Winter Fuel Allowance 😀
