RX 450h Nearside wiper arm failure

I have just had my 2018 Lexus 450h in for service. When I collected the car I was notified that the front nearside wiper arm needed replacing as the bearing had fallen apart and was causing the wiper arm to catch on the edge of the bonnet gauging a path in the metal. I was told the wiper arm failure is not covered under the extended warranty. The wiper arm can be replaced at a cost of £279.35, the cost to repair the bonnet is significantly more.  I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem.

Its a rare occurrence. Not heard of it myself.

Has the windscreen been changed before?

No, Original windscreen. I had noticed an intermittent knock when the wipers were in operation but just put it down to the wiper rubber changing direction.

I have a 2012 RX450h and the wiper rack broke - I had to replace it.  I think it was damage a few years ago when it was iced up.

It is a pain when the wipers stop at 70 in the outside lane of a motor way when it is lashing down.
