Lexus thefts

So, presumably this 'tracker' tracks the vehicle once stolen but doesn't deal with the CanBus issue? Horse and stable door come to mind ... unless I'm missing the point?

A couple of weeks ago I took my UK into Lexus Exeter for its first service.  Their Warranty Manager reported 'Lexus do not have a Protection Plate part available,  as UX models are not affected by this issue.  So - I contacted Lexus Customer Care with my registration number, and they said my car was affected and I should contact my dealer.  so, I passed the message on and have now been waiting ten days for a response.

The car thieves will soon know about trackers.  Then it becomes a deterrent.

Or they will arrange for the shipping container to be positioned just around the corner. Once the doors are closed there is no tracking signal!

Probably a topic for discussion?   My tracker supplier told me that my GPS and VHF tracker would still be detectable in a shipping container due to the VHF frequency.  True or not?🤔

  • What Are Trackers?

In-car trackers are small electronic devices. They use VHF, GPS (Global Positioning System) or both to track vehicles. When used for commercial purposes they’re usually fitted in dashboards. However, it’s easy to conceal trackers almost anywhere on a vehicle.

GPS trackers work anywhere in the world, but the signal is weaker, so it’s possible to hide a car or jam the signal. This means they’re less useful for anti-theft purposes. On the other hand, VHF-based tracking (such as the well-known Tracker™ system) mean vehicles can be found even if hidden in underground car parks or shipping containers.

Oooops!   should have read VHF (only). Frequency was a repetition. Sorry about my appalling O-level English grammar.

Exeter is my local dealership. They are totally indifferent to customers once they have your money. They have never called me back unless it was for something they needed. Useless

I was told by Lexus UX, my UX ( reg2020 ) WAS a candidate for theft.

The dealer told me they only fit plates to RX's ( 4th Gen? ) but DO fit a free Tracker to my UX.

Booked in for next week.

Then it isn’t a Lexus problem, it’s any brand.

Then surely this discussion has come full circle, it's the CamBus issue that needs to be addressed first?

The notion of having a container round the corner is a ridiculous one.  I don’t know if he gets off on the smug goading but they’re a regular occurrence, ignore it.  The cars that are at risk will get a tracker and despite the snipes, it will deter a car thief.  They hate good quality steering locks too.  Won’t make it impossible but it is mighty inconvenient.
