Just had basic service done rx450 2014. 67000 miles.

When I was leaving they told me there is 1ltr bottle engine oil on front passenger seat, I thought that was nice goodwill gesture until I checked my bill. I had been charged £12.49 plus vat, I rang Lexus this morning and was told this was compulsory so as to give better value to customers. They also said they have good feedback over this as many customers don't know what oil to put in! I suppose printing oil type on sticker in engine compartment or service book would be more work! Looks like if we don't use any oil between services we are all going to have ltr bottles in the garage.

I've never had any oil left in the car after a service in 10 consecutive services on my IS 300h. And so it's certainly not compulsory for Lexus dealers, even if a particular group of dealers wants all of theirs to do it. I know other marque dealers who do this but AFAIK it's always been complimentary (or at least not broken out on the invoice!). Also my car has never used any oil between services in 150k miles so I'd have rather a lot of unneeded oil by now...!

Did it push the price over the price for interim service on the Lexus website? I also got a 1L bottle of oil at last service. I noticed it was on the invoice but as it was all covered by the service plan and I didn’t pay anything extra I thought no more about it. I’m also Merseyside area.

It was inc in service charge but if you refuse it you still pay for it!

Intermediate service for an RX should be £340 according to Lexus website so as long as total didn’t exceed that then I’d treat it as a courtesy. They probably need to show it on invoice to declare it as an expense.
