Outside, rear view mirror’s puzzle.

Recommended Posts

Evening all,

When I first purchased my Lexus, three years ago, I’d unlock the drivers door and both side mirrors would open automatically, which my wife and I found to be quite a novelty. I’d lock the car and I’m almost certain that the mirrors would fold in. This feature lasted for a few months and then it stopped working; this might have happened because I began using the adjustment button on the door to close the mirrors.
The automatic opening switch for the side mirrors is a feature which is not fitted to this model. There certainly isn’t an auto switch amongst the switches, just the two manual switches.

To be honest, I’ve never let it bother me as it’s just as easy to use the manual switch which opens or closes the mirrors.

I am baffled as to why something which isn’t naturally a function of this model was working and then stopped. I’m just wondering, despite the fact I’ve owned the car for three years, if anybody else has encountered a similar situation.

Try putting the mirror adjustment position switch in either the right or left side position and then trying it. Mine has mirrors that dip down in reverse and these only work if the position switch is not off/ in the centre position.

Perhaps the previous owner fitted one of the auto folding add on boxes that can be purchased online and that has stopped working?

Your car will have the function.

The only issue is I cant remember whether either left or right has to be lit up, or both have to be non lit. Try it and see how you get on. It is also in the manual and will tell you what to do.

Is the AUTO button activated?  If you have factory electric mirrors and the option to auto fold the mirrors, then you should have this button on the door panel.

it should also have a light that turns on when activated.
