Spare wheel/ space saver

Recommended Posts

Hello, I bought a 2015 Lexus IS 300h a few weeks ago and I am very impressed with it. I was wondering if anyone carried a spare or space saver? I was wondering if it was possible (at least for the longer journeys)

Interesting subject, where a space saver would normally go is taken up by the High voltage traction Battery.

Your only option is to carry it in the boot load area. Not a problem if your travelling with one small suitcase but anything more you will struggle.

*Your best option is to invest in a 12v tyre compressor-inflator.  Will get you of trouble in a puncture situation. Or a tyre plug kit keeps you moving again. (Although no use if the tyre is damaged on the side wall)

There is an inflator supplied with the car & its usually mounted above the 12v Battery on the left side in the boot remove the cover to find it, although worth noting t's designed to only be used with the tyre sealant it doesn't have a female connector compatible to connect directly to the tyre valve.

The RAC/AA now carry universal space saver to let you continue with your journey so no point worrying too much. Take precautions check tyre pressure before any long journey etc

I carry a space saver tyre with me everywhere I go, it is normally near the entrance of the boot held in place with a net, but if I carry anything large I just slide it to the back of the boot.

I have run with a space saver in my is300h boot for about 9 years. I still fitted my golf bag, electric trolley and other bits and pieces in. I have it inside a wheel bag that will fit a full size tyre. Not been much of an issue it’s there for peace of mind and a get you home quicker than waiting for recovery. I have now swapped to a UX and not sure if it would fit that, will have to do some investigation. With all the different sizes of wheels not sure how a recovery could stock all of them
