Heated windscreen?

Recommended Posts

Hi, me again 🙂

I cant find anything in the spec which indicates the car has a heated windscreen, but I have read that it's possible to turn on the windscreen before you get in the car.  Has the LBX got a heated windscreen please?

Thank you ...yes, I know I would wait until I get the car in 4 weeks - but Im too excited, so please forgive me lol

The 'heated windscreen' will be limited to just the area where the wipers park. It's just to release the wiper in freezing weather

You could download the owner's handbook for your car from the Lexus website, start to become familiar with it's operation.

I tried to do that download but because I didnt have a reg number, I struggled to find it.  I'll try again.

Thank you for your reply 🙂

ah ha! Now I looked on my desktop, I realised I can get the owners manual without the VIN 🙂

Hi Jean,

If you open the Lexus link+ app you have options to turn on the front and rear demisters, heated steering wheel and seat(s) so just toggle the switches over to select.

if you press ‘Climate’ on the bottom of the infotainment, it brings up options to alter the settings of the fan and to turn on the de icer which is just at the bottom for the wipers and on mine the windscreen in front of the front camera

if you have the app you can download or view the manual on there too.

Hi Jean. I believe this function is available in all models, barring the entry level model.

Not sure if you have done this Jean, but I downloaded the full Owners Manual and Multimedia Manual for my NX and LBX on to my computer from:

Lexus Owner Manuals | Online Access Manuals | Lexus UK

Enter the VIN  - not the number plate - which should be visible at the bottom of the windscreen for your vehicle.  Then download and you can print off if you wish or search the pdf document.

I have done it now, and actually I'm just being very excited / impatient because I dont have the car yet.  But I saw the VIN on one of the documents & when I popped it in, it worked - so I am the proud owner of a 676 page owners manual!  I blinking hope I get a hard copy, as that is a lot to try and read 🙂

Hard copies are not supplied by default and I'm not sure they are available at all for current models. The pdf is so much easier to search through (CTRL+F) than the paper versions..

There should be two documents to download: the main owner's manual plus a 356 page multimedia manual.  Both should have been visible from the site when you downloaded the owner's manual.

I’m not sure about Lexus, but in my Volvo you can have a head-up display or a heated windscreen, but not both. I wonder if it’s something to do with the head-up display not being able to work with a screen with heated elements in.
Given a choice I think I would pick the head-up display. Heated windscreens are good, but you still need to manually clear the back and sides.

Hi Ian

You have these options in your Lexus Link + App? I read about this in the brochure , but in my app all I have is the option to set a temp on a slider, I have no option to start the heated seats/stearing wheel and the front and rear demister? I've attached a screen shot, but the dealer doesn't have an answer, just they they put things in marketing but that it isn't always available????  If you have these options then I need to speak to them again? I find the app rubbish anyway, it never connects properly and never works, for example, I cant unlock the car with the app, because I locked it with the car key?  Its useless.  Thanks in advance.

Hi Jon,

Thats strange as my app said the same before delivery but the options then just appeared a day or so before. I presume this is a dealer issue so I’d go back there and find out how to activate all the features.

this is what I see so yours defo isn’t right.

Hi Ian

Thank you so much for replying! I kind of thought I was going a bit crazy as nothing seems to be working as I had assumed.  I have been back to the dealer twice, first time I was massively fobbed off with all my issues, but I had to make a formal complaint to get taken seriously and they did send the after sales manager in the end to try and sort things out.  He said he had unpaired me from the car and then we tried to repair me , but i'm still having a lot of problems with apple car play and as I said before the app never works properly for me, and very rarely connects. I have a Takumi and the brochure stated that it could do all the functions your app is letting you do, but doesn't seem to be for some reason on mine. After a couple of hours on Monday I was told that Lexus UK is aware of a problem, but so far no solution and it still doesn't work?  It has massively soured my experience of buying the car, especially as I was going off the reputation of Lexus being No 1 for reliability compared to other brands, and all I seem to have had is problems 😵‍💫

Yeah that’s not great, I don’t know what the solution would be apart from the dealer hasn’t set something up right. I hope you get it sorted though, my CarPlay works fine so maybe it’s a software or set up issue.

I had an email today that said Lexus technical could tell from the video I had forwarded what the issue was, and it is in an update with various bug fixes, but that will not be pushed to vehicles probably until December 😵‍💫 So I will just have to wait.  Do you have a Takumi or Takumi Design ?  Your profile says Takumi, which is the model I have, but even though the brochure says it should have these remote climate functions, the dealer says they can only confirm that Takumi Design has these functions? and are waiting to hear back from Lexus direct.  Which is a bit weird.  Thank you for all your advice so far.

Strange Jon, hope they sort it.

yeah it’s a Takumi and as far as I’m aware all the LBX’s have the connected features. Might be worthwhile ringing another dealer actually, to see if they can shed some light on the situation. My local dealer are very good but the salesmen aren’t very technical minded.

I bought it from Lexus Birmingham, and to start with we were impressed with them, but seem to have been just fobbed off every time (since they have had my money), after I made a massive complaint and a negative google review, I have had a bit more help, but now have been liaising with the after sales service manager who seems way more helpful but I still don't seem to be getting anywhere as the are just saying I need to wait for updates or they don't really have an answer.  I bought this model in particular because of all these features and supposed Lexus reliability so it's quite disappointing. I actually live in South Wales so I could try the dealer in Cardiff or Bristol if I don't get anywhere. I've even said a few times if they cant sort it I want to return it for a refund, as it's just ongoing hassle and stress.  But I'm glad to hear most people aren't having issues at least, it seems i've just picked the short straw.  Thanks again for all your insights, it's been really helpful!

Decades ago (and it was as long as that) the Ford Sierra I owned at the time had a  “heated” windscreen and worked a treat !

Why (?) are these not fitted to “all” vehicles that are sold in cold climates “by all manufacturers” is beyond me or is it a Patent Issue ?

I had a HUD in my BMW Alpina B5 Touring but the screen could not be fitted with the de-icer because of it. I asked the Alpina factory why and they explained the HUD requires the laminate to be wedge shaped (thicker at the bottom than the top) for the car to be able to project and reflect the images. This meant the heating elements could not be fitted and even if they could be the image would distort. My Range Rover Sport had a heated screen but it severely compromised the range of the garage door/gate remote control. Lexus get around the HUD limitation by only heating the base of the screen to release the wipers.
