I feel daft asking such an apparently simple question, but I am having trouble opening (and closing with locking) the boot.  It doesn’t seem to open from inside if I push the button or necessarily from the outside with the key or the boot opener button.  I just get a double beep.

What is stopping it just opening like every other car I’ve owned?  Also, I’ve only succeeded in closing and locking it once.  Is it to do with it wants me to retreat backwards?

My experience is that it's a bit fickle, even allowing for the built-in safety mechanisms. From the outside, whether using the button or the kick sensor, you do need to step back to give the boot room to open without hitting you. For the kick sensor, kicking in and out works better than side to side. If closing and locking using the button on the tailgate, you do, again, need to step away. I can't achieve this all the time, yet! I rarely get anywhere using the fob. Make sure you are in Park if using the button inside the car.

I have found that for the lock button on the tailgate to work properly you have to press the button and walk away, not just step away.

The release button inside the car needs a long press. Also make sure the keys are well inside the car. Having them in your pocket if trying to use the release button whilst stood by the door will always be very hit & miss

I suspected this.  My previous Tarraco was much more straightforward

I am experiencing the opposite problem. My boot opens without any problem. However it often stops part way as it starts to close. I have found it best to give a long push on the close button until the sounder has stopped and then walk away from the car. The closing is worse when the car is wet after it has rained.

I have been unable to identify where the safety sensors are. Perhaps it uses the reversing camera?

As others have mentioned the boot has a mind of its own. The foot operation system is unreliable, the lock on close system is unreliable and at times it decides to stop with a few inches left to go. I did notice, when once parked on a pebble beach, that its behaviour worsened considerably which makes me wonder if a camera is involved.

Interesting, mixed experiences. I guess Ian/Iain's experience is different because he has the Generation 1 NX and things have changed (for better or worse) with Gen 2. I've not experienced the boot stopping with a few inches to go as Sean has found. Whilst I had trouble at first, I can now get the kick sensor to work first time about 95% of the time and it's a feature I appreciate; especially as it shows off my magical powers to the grandchildren! Walking away after pressing the close and lock button on the tailgate is still frustrating me and often I'm half way to my back door when I realise the boot lid hasn't moved. I get it right about one in 5 times but, when I don't, then I end up walking back to the car to press the close button (which always works) and then I can lock the car either with the fob or using the door handle. Still a great car though 🙂

In some ways I would prefer a manual tailgate which is faster and has no sensors to stop it from closing. In the olden days I would cram the boot with rubbish and then force it closed 😅

I haven't mastered the kick sensor yet either 😅

It will stop if you haven’t walked far enough away

I’ve figured out most of my issues.

1.  The settings for doors have to be set to UNLOCK  all doors in P

2.  Step away about 4-5ft when pressing close & lock
