Another car cleaning session and yet more stone chips. Modern Lexus paint must be really soft.

I daren’t say it but mine is unmarked after 9 months. Would it be soft? I tend to think hard would make it brittle and soft absorbent.

I take it that the chips are predominantly on the front and bonnet?

Have you considered going to a Detailer for the application of a Paint Protection Film? Obviously any current damage would have to be rectified first, but PPF will eliminate those unsightly and irritating pin pricks of paint damage. In fact PPF does have a degree of self-healing!

Lexus paint has self healing properties in the clear coat. Swirls and minor scratches will self repair. Stone chips another story, I had a significant chip within 6 weeks on my RC 🥴

If applying PPF don't forget to declare it to you insurer...

I'm not certain my car 'heals' I think it must need extra vitamins or something!

I have something called 'Club Smartguard Cosmetic and Alloys' - has anyone experienced this? Apparently they will come to the house and 'repair' up to 10 small areas of damage for £30.00 - up to 3 times during the cover period.

I think the time has come to call on it!

Some insurers see it as a modification and it increases the costs of repair should a panel need repainting.

There have been reports of insurance being refused.

Many just see it as a wrap which attracts a high premium, but even if not there is still a higher cost if it has to be removed to perform a repair so it needs to be declared.

Even if declared, most policies won't cover the PPF itself so a new one won't be reapplied after repair work 😞
