Lexus LC 500 Sport +. Tyres

Hi All,

My LC 500 is due for a service and MOT on the 14th June and I suspect may need a number or replacement tyres.

The car is a 2017 registered model with 19750 miles.

Presently, I have on the front, Bridgestone Potenza’s. 245/40 RF21 96Y and rear also Bridgestone’s Potenza 275/35/RF21 99Y.

Could the group let me know what's the best tyre now to replace these with. I have read that some owners favour the Non-Run Flats but that would preclude me purchasing some sort of tyre repair kit.

The run flats I have are noisy and a hard ride so would appreciate your thoughts.

I am in exactly the same situation as you, my Service and MOT is in September.

i also need 4 new tyres, i have only done 11500 miles but being 7 years old the tyres are starting to crack within the tread, I have the same tyres as you. i could possibly get away with it this year but i dont see the point as i would defiantly need them next year and i won't be keeping the car long enough to need tyres again.

I personally am going to stick to the same tyres, my concern is that if you choose a different make and it is not as good as the ones you have you are stuck with them. what we really need is half a dozen LC's with different makes of tyres on that we can drive to compare. my opinion is better the devlel you know, i also dont want the hassle of having a can of tyre foam stuff in the boot which i believe ruins the tyre is you use it, only lasts a year and cost quite a bit to replace.

At 7 years old tyres could be going hard anyway but I agree the runflats aren’t great. Mine are the same Bridgestones.

New LCs seem to have Michelins - I’d be going for those even if they’re non runflats, or Conti SportContact/Goodyears, again with a tyre gunk kit. I have Michelin PS5 on my Kia - they seem really good but it’s whether they’re available in the right sizes to suit the LC. Tyrereviews website is well worth a look.

Finally, make sure your insurers are ok with non runflats - I believe some might class them as a modification.

For what it’s worth I’m running Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tyres on my RCF and would whole heartedly recommend them.  Wet and dry grip is brilliant and are wearing much better then PS4S/Contis.  Around £200 cheaper a set too!!

 Irrespective what you do, I wouldn’t put the Bridgestones back on….

Same to people above with LC500’s. Basic UHP tyre seems to be a total overkill for some.

Regretfully I still have run flats on mine and when the time comes I'll fit non rf's and either Goodyear or Coniti's. From past experiences I know that alone will transform the car but if a puncture does occur and the gunk can't seal it, then it's time to call Greenflag. I'd also add there is another tyre which is self sealing and has very good reviews, from memory they are also available in our required sizes:CLICK HERE, something I will seriously consider along with Khumo tyres which I believe are a trade name for some well known tyre manufacture and again have a very good name.

The LC is a GT. A big heavy GT. If you’re thinking of sticking PS4S on it you bought the wrong car - a McLaren or some sort of Porsche would make more sense. Same goes for the RCF and ISF up to a point - they’re not out and out sports cars but you’d get more benefit out of an ultra high perf tyre on those I suppose.

If you think you are right above then what’s the point to have even PS5? Why not budget tyres? People seem to cruise at 20mph in them to hear low V8 burble and sometimes to hit the gas pedal 20-80mph ONLY on straight, wide street. You don’t need anything near PS5 then? Any Chinese tyre can do that…

PS5 - better ride than runflats or PS4S, longer life than PS4S, excellent wet weather performance and some realllly nice sidewalls. My Kia set replaced Conti sport contact 6 and were better at everything but to be fair the Contis were part worn and a couple of years old.

It’s not just ditchfinders or PS4S - there is a middle ground. Maybe for an LC a full on touring tyre could work, but a middling sort of sport tyre is probably best given the bhp and rwd

I’ve been extremely impressed with them.  I was expecting to notice a slight reduction in grip at the limit but haven’t found it yet.  I do push the car hard at times too, certainly don’t baby it at all!

I’m very much bought into the rationale of the car as a GT car so wanted a little more comfort.  I do think that I wouldn’t want to go mid tier for tires mind you, car still has nearly 500bhp and rear wheel drive…the piece of mind is worth the price in my eyes.

I went ps4s and I won’t  look back. The traction. Or significant lack off, was not acceptable to me. The difference is night and day. 

I’m sure the ps4s ZP was also an OEM option at some point too.

Carrying a repair kit / slime is not an issue for me.
