Mirrors folding in when washing car!

Quite an annoyance! Any idea why it's happening and how to turn it off? They're set to fold when locked, but seem to fold in a couple of mins after I press unlock on the keyfob when the car is getting washed. NX 350h '24 plate.

If you press unlock and don't open any doors the car will automatically lock after a few minutes and therefore the mirrors will fold also.

Keep the car unlocked when washing by opening one of the doos. How do you get the interior sills washed with the doors closed if youre washing it whilst locked? 

Alternatively press the auto button and it will stop it from folding when locked

When I wash my car I always put the key out of range of the car in the garage, that way it doesn’t keep locking/unlocking every time I wipe over and around the door handles. 
 

As @KenR says, if you unlock the car but do not open a door it will automatically lock itself. This has been a security feature of all of the cars I have owned for many years.

I unlock the car then turn the key fob off so the sensors don’t trigger in the door handles when the water goes over it

but you do need to open and close the door once to stop it locking after a couple of minutes

key fob is turned off by holding down the lock button and pressing the unlock button twice

I'm with Stephen on this one, put the key out of range. Saves it getting wet; the doors can be unlocked so I can open/close them at will when washing the door jambs etc; saves the Battery wasting it's precious juice every time the car either locks or unlocks itself.

I simply unlock the car and leave the key in the door handle.

Car stays unlocked, and I know where the key is.

As already suggested, the easiest way of keeping the mirrors out/unfolded is to basically unlock the car, open one of the doors and then the car will remain unlocked. 

Whatever you do though, don't leave the key in the car. After a few minutes, the car will start doing those 'long peeps' at you! Especially if you go near the door handles! I tend to leave the key on the nearest window sill. I'm staying with the car anyway, so it's not a problem. 

On a slightly different subject whilst still remaining on 'car washing', I've had to develop a knack when it comes to drying. Once I've dried the bootlid, I'll then open it whilst drying the rest of the car. It tends to hold quite a bit of water in the channels and will leave those annoying 'drips' running down the rear bumper and rear quarters! By the time you've dried the rest of the car forwards of the rear quarter, it's mostly 'drained' itself...!

Strange, as that's exactly what I do, unlock the car, open the door, then shove the key in the door handle. Not once has the car beeped at me.

If your car has stubborn spots or contaminants, a clay bar treatment before drying can help smooth the surface and make drying easier.
