With labour and parts prices in local garages seeming to go up rapidly with inflation, it is refreshingly nice to see that the main dealer fixed services prices are somewhat stuck in time (yes, I know it's still a lot of £, but hear me out).

I looked here on old threads from 2015-206, and Lexus dealers were asking £600 for the IS250 60k service (the big one).

I asked my local Lexus dealer how much it would cost today (May 2024) and what was included, and I was fairly surprised they quoted £580 inc VAT.

Considering the change of spark plugs, brake fluid, oil, + various filters, I don't think this is too shabby compared with my usual village garage.

I got a quote from my mechanic to do all the above jobs alone at £566, this doesn't include al the inspections carried at the dealer.

Below is what is included in the 60k service of the IS250; some stuff obviously not applied as the car is not a hybrid:

The 60K service includes:

· Carry out 60K/72 month full service as per schedule.

· Includes:- Replace engine oil & oil filter.

· Replace windscreen washer fluid.

· Check all fluid levels & top up as required.

· Inspect Battery electrolyte, cleanliness & security.

· Inspect cooling system, hoses & connections.

· Inspect radiator & condenser for debris & signs of damage.

· Inspect inverter coolant.

· Inspect engine coolant.

· Inspect air filter element.

· Replace spark plugs.

· Inspect charcoal canister.

· Replace brake fluid.

· Inspect brake pads & discs.

· Check brake pipes and hoses.

· Inspect fuel cap, fuel lines & connections.

· Inspect steering wheel, gear & linkages.

· Inspect drive shafts including CV boots.

· Inspect ball joints & dust covers.

· Inspect wheel bearings.

· Inspect wheel alignment.

· Inspect front & rear suspension.

· Inspect for under vehicle and under hood fluid leaks.

· Check exhaust system for security & leaks.

· Check all tyre pressures (including spare if equipped).

· Check wheel rims for damage & tighten wheel nuts to correct torque.

· Check operation of hand brake.

· Check brake pedal travel.

· Check operation of lights, horns, wipers & washers.

· Check function of all warning lights.

· Inspect glass and light lenses.

· Replace pollen filter.

· Check seat belts for damage & operation.

· Check operation of alarm system.

· Check installation of driver's floor mat.

· Replace remote control Battery.

· Carry out hybrid health check.

· Reset OMMS.

· Carry out wash & vacuum.

· Carry out visual safety report.

That list states ‘Inspect air filter element’ but Lexus Schedule states ‘Replace air filter element’ ?

My village garage charges around £63 an hour which is not too dear around here.

For the plugs job with parts alone before var they want around £250, brake fluid change at £130, oil change £89.

No coffee, no paper and three miles walk home.

Not a terrible price all things considered. Plus, you have the reassurance that genuine parts will be used, and presumably decent fully-synthetic oil.

In my experience they won't include parts like spark plugs or water pump together with the service they should be done with. If you pay for parts then they will replace them as part of the service.

So I would suggest inquiring again and making sure that spark plugs that usually costs like £280 just on their own are included in the service for £580.

I consider that when Lexus had essential maintenance for cars over 5 years old, that was complete steal, honestly no independent garage or even Toyota could match them, nevermind beat them. But now that you have to pay full price for servicing car over 10 years old it is really questionable value.

I always prefer to have a "proper dealer" service as long as it is not too expensive.

I suppose someone we can trust is all that we want.

I sent an email to the dealer, and they confirmed in writing that it is a fixed price of £580, including parts and labour. Spark plugs, oil filters, and all parts quoted for replacements are included. They also offered to replace the air filter for free.

I think I will bite their arm off..
