Garage charging for MM Software Update?

So ... in Europe, it seems you can't do a MM software update on your lexus (NX300h) yourself, you have to get a Garage to do it.  In the USA, you can just download the update on a USB and plug it in yourself.

I've asked my garage (who is also the Lesus dealer) to do it, and they've come back and said, that I have to buy the Map Update before they can do the MM software update.

Does that sound right to anyone?  I've never read this anywhere else?

You should be able to download the updates from Lexus Tech and do it yourself.

Just beware that if it goes wrong, it may cost you a new multimedia unit.... (if it goes wrong with the dealer doing it then it would be up to them to put it right)

You can end up having to buy a whole new multimedia device if something goes wrong with it.... ("it shall be the responsibility of the dealer to rectify the situation in the event that it goes wrong").
