Hi,

Attempted to steal my nx300h 68 plate last night, neighbour got woken up and called police,

Alarm went off and by the time I clocked on from deep sleep I didn't see any1 near the car or running away. Alarm stopped by the time I went to get the keys.

I saw that the mirrors were open so I thought maybe car unlocked, I didn't attempt to lock the car.

I watched to see if anything will happen, within a min police drove by, then within another min another one came and pulled up next to my car, then the other came back again.

When police man opened the car the alarm went off again,

Initially I thought some1 collided on passenger side as I park on the road, only after the police ran their dog they came and talked to me, told me it's the canbus attempt to steal.

I'm at the dealers now

I don't want to go insurance unless it's costly to repair the front arch. They've taken quite a bit off and broken bits

Hybrid and headlight offline

I had a hard time insuring it last year, I should've looked into why. Ended up paying so much for insurance.

Yes good idea try to keep it out of insurance claim if you can because you will have a nightmare getting insurance next time and the premium will jump even higher.  Eventually Lexus will update the security on my model and I will keep it until my next insurance which is April 25 and then move away most likely to Honda.  Whilst Honda hybrids are for old people (and I'm old) they do not get stolen like Lexus and insurance is very reasonable indeed

Apparently a piece of body is bent so lexus have sent me to estimate from Toyota body shop.

Cost from lexus if no damage to body quoted as £350.

Told me to get a ghost immobiliser, nothing else they can do. Didn't even recommend an installer.

update:

toyota body shop quoting 3k, replace wing and bumper ...ffs

That is completely mad!!!  I would suggest you try to find a reputable bodywork repairer.  I can't say this is true of Toyota BUT with a number of other brands mostly use specialist independents but claim it is done by them.  EG I used to know a person who was a specialist PDR (paintless dent remover) and apart from dealing with private people he used to go to the local Audi, BMW and Honda dealership and repair customers cars at the dealership.  Where he charged between £30-£90 for dent removal (which often took 10-30 minutes max) to the dealership they would massively profit from it by telling a load of porkies about how the car was taken to a specialist centre, had parts removed etc to charge a lot for labour.

I found this out because my fiancee at the time had a 5 series and a stray golf ball from Carlisle golf club came onto main road and hit bonnet while she was doing around 60mph.  A bad dent in the bonnet was caused although paintwork appeared ok so she took it into BMW Carlisle.  A week later got it back along with a £500 bill and was told they had to get the bonnet and its insultation removed to access the dent and labour time was a few hours.  A couple of months later by pure chance I became friends with a PDR person and when he came to our house we quickly established that he had fixed her bonnet as he was often called out to the dealers around Carlisle.  It took him 20-30 minutes and not bonnet removal and he had charged them £60.00

My fiancee did not want me to but I did go back however as I had raised the issue a couple of months after and there was nothing wrong with the work they would not entertain any form of redress.  I contacted their UK customer services and remember the letter / reply basically stated that when their own body shops were extremely busy (it was 2005 and Carlisle had just had one of the worst floods in the UK ever) outsourcing work to other BMW assured / professional repair personal was acceptable rather than to have extended delays in repairs for the customer.  They also questioned the cost and work involved that I stated but had to be careful / mindful of the fact that my friend had lots of work given to him by these main dealers and I couldn't drop him in it.  For the past 15 years I have worked in Motorsport and also deal with components and bodywork parts for private cars like Lamborghini, Ferrari, McLaren for my customers sometimes.  I have had Lamborghini electronic components that arrive in their Volkswagen group brown cardboard packaging, the part number starts differently but is EXACTLY the same as a part for a VW and yet because of them categorising it as a Lambo part number it is 10 times the price!!!  It is crazy what goes on with the groups with a lot of shared parts that are 'dressed' differently for their more premium ranges but are exactly the same core parts - except many many times more expensive.

Someone on here reported having a problem with the Ghost draining Battery. They eventually had it removed.  There is brand new device thats just come onto market called Shadow. Have a look and see if it fits your requirements. Its by the established tracker company Smartrak

Here is the link:

Just to add to the discussion, I had a Ghost II fitted to my NX350H (MY24) over 6 months ago, and it's been faultless. No Battery issue here.

I contacted Autowatch to recommend a fitter in my area, and specifically asked for one who'd fitted the Ghost II to a recent NX model. They duly obliged.

I had a Ghost 2 fitted to my 300h several months ago. No issues works as intended. No Battery drain issues. I contacted Autowatch who put me in touch with a local installer, who was great. I wanted a one man band to fit it, not a big national.

the immobiliser will not stop somebody dismantling your car.

no issues with Battery on my ghost - it is a passive device unlike a tracker (which is active even when the car is off)

It won’t, got a Disklok too as a visual deterrent. Not sure what else we can all do really. Even once Lexus roll out the fix (any time if they stick to their mid April promise), it could be some time before people stop dismantling the front corners to attempt theft.

One option to consider is go through insurance, then sell on the car before your next renewal is due, swapping for something you can insure more easily

Sadly some owners have reported being targeted more than once now that the thieves know your car location so worth considering.

Do you have no claims protection?  What is the total excess on your insurance?

You will need to make a decision based on this because if you do not have no claims protection you will be shafted on the insurance price and if total excess is say £800 thats 20% your contributing anyway.  Even if low excess and no claims protected this will then be noted on your policy and definately have an impact on your annual premium as they will know you are in a high risk are (if they didn't in the first place)

yeah i have no claims and its protected and very low excess. I will need to increase my excess to try and bring it down when i renew.  not looking forward to the shafting.

i'm planning to fit an immobiliser, looks like the pandora BT mini is good because it looks it'll cause the alarm to go off when they break the bumper, another company suggested this : https://www.autowatch.co.uk/veh-sec/alarm-upgrade/12-autowatch-695-can-bus-universal-alarm-system on top of ghost 2 immobiliser

not clear on pandora bt mini cost

but the ghost 2 immobi and advanced alarms are 499+499

Agree, I’m sadly walking away. I bought my LS400 in 94, and have owned IS200, LS430, GS300, IS300 and my NX. I’ve ordered a Honda E:Ny1 electric (catchy name) I’m old, and miles driven and range works well with an EV and insurance is less than the nx. As EV sales have dropped generally ex demos cars are around at pretty attractive prices.

I will drop a letter to Lexus customer service, their reaction to the thefts has been far too slow. With Lexus we all pay a little more for quality, reliability and a good service experience. We don’t expect Lexus UK management to send a message of “nothing to do with us, nothing to see here” for 18 months and then spring into action following the Watchdog exposure. I still haven’t quite got over Lexus sending me a survey saying would I like a packet of wild flowers as a gift when I collect a new car!

WOW how generous Lexus are offering you a packet of wild flowers.... surely you can't move across to another brand when they are rewarding you so richly for your many many years of loyalty to them.

Honda offered 5 years warranty and 5 years free servicing. I compared it to the packet of wild flower seeds from Lexus. It was a difficult choice.

I think the Honda deal is better value😁. But hang on, the wild flower seeds offer sounds eco friendly and they might not be weeds? Hmm... it's a difficult choice.  😴.   After thinking very hard ( it hurt a bit ) I think the solution is go for the Honda and buy your own wild flower seeds from home bargains for 99p.
