Bit the bullet and buying a 2nd hand RX 450h from a trade seller. It has 13 services undertaken mainly at Lexus dealerships or Steven Eagell Toyota Dealer Group branches. That gives me some confidence but the last service spoke of a hybrid warning light being triggered by fault codes P2601, P2602, and P2603. Sounds like Lexus cleared the codes as a 1st step and quoted for a new oil pump at £1,200. Language was ambiguous but wording points towards the replacement having not happened. Should I be worried that this will rear it's head again as soon as I get the car? Can a failed pump destroy the engine? Could I be that unlucky fool who gets screwed? Have to admit I'm slightly nervous having been badly burnt on a used car recently. The RX has 150k miles and one owner from new though.

Also, there is only one key. How much would a spare cost from a decent (non-dealer) auto locksmith?

Hi Pete, if I understand your post correctly you are contemplating buying, or have committed to buy, a car with existing fault codes of which the source/suspected problem has not been corrected. That's an immediate NO-NO for me, my advice is do not proceed (more especially if it's on sale from a 'trade seller' as they should know better!).

There was a delay in getting me the service information as I'm buying remotely. But yes, I'm feeling very twitchy now. Hoping to speak to Lexus Ipswich later to see if they can confirm, if not I'll be calling the trade seller first thing.

Just as an update. The dealer is replacing the transmission oil pump prior to purchase and delivery so I can't really argue with that.

Who is replacing the pump & what pump is being fitted (OE or ?)
