Disappearing guide lines on replacement rear view camera

Recommended Posts

Severe damage to my UX tailgate after rear shunt necessitated a replacement rear view camera. Four weeks in local body shop with faultless repair carried out with the exception of the new camera failing to display the yellow/blue guide lines.

Subcontractors used by repair shop, who do all their techie work, attempted on three occasions to resolve and failed every time and on 2nd attempt drained my 12 volt Battery decided on a fourth attempt because the specialist tools were not available to them.

Very frustrated I decided to take the matter into my own hands, did a Youtube search on “Disappearing guide lines rear view camera” and found a 3.5 minute video on the subject showing a 2019 Lexus ES with identical tracker pad etc as my UX  (l also contacted Lexus dealership who quoted £150 to resolve)

I followed the Youtube instructions and got it working within 5 minutes.

I mention this because others my find the procedure helpful this would appear to be a “backdoor” approach to gain access to the menus structure should they need to anytime. It’s unbelievably simple to gain access.

Process…Start the engine and whilst HOLDING down the MENU button next to tracker turn ON/OFF parking/headlights toggle 3 times (video says 4 times but 3 times aslo worked)

Use service menu at your own risk.

Imzy.........There are Youtube videos of Toyota models (Yaris and Rav 4) with touch screens that illustrate the method to gain access to the camera settings. One showed touching and holding the audio button on the screen whilst turning the head lights on/off 3 times and another also a menu button.

I suggest you do a Youtube search on “disappearing guide lines rear view camera” which will allow you to do a  re-calibrate.

Hope this helps (most of the videos were in the USA)

Thank you Ed, I will have a look.

Do you reckon the camera installed by the repairer is not original Lexus and may not have that function?

Imzy.........Probably not a Lexus version camera, but I don't think that was the problem because it's the software that drives the camera functionality within the menu structure.

Imzy.........All new Lexus models come with a 3 year warranty as standard therefore your dealership should recalibrate your camera free of charge.

Warranty doesn't cover a third party's failed work.

Hello,

have a question, the UX does not have an on/off position for the headlights, it has an auto, a parking light, and an always on position for the headlights.

How did you go about?

Correct.....I moved the light switch from the Auto position to the parking light position and then toggled between the parking light and the head light position a total of 3 times and it worked.

Colin..... I don't think Imzy's problem is a failed repair he just wants to re-calibrate the guide lines.

The company performing the repair didn't follow the correct replacement procedure which states a recalibration is required and therefore the guide lines disappeared.

The guide lines wouldn't have disappeared if the vehicle wasn't involved in an accident and had parts replaced - therefore it isn't a warranty issue.

Hello Colin and Ed, completey agree on both of your advices, spoke to the insurer and they contacted the repairer which are going to rectify the issue also my number plate light which is located at the bottom of the boot opening are pushed in slightly, absolutly fuming that they didn't see this and quality checks weren't done before giving the car back to me.

Ed going back at your on/off position of the headlight stork, can't seem to get the service menu up, did this yesterday couple of times, couldnt seem to find a video on you tube either but really appreciate your guidance and support on this.

If the repairer fails the calibaration what shall I do next? Because what Colin is saying is right Lexus won't touch my car on another workshops mess.

See picture on the screen at the bottom left and right are greyed out and unable to do anything.

Ed, do reckon the software will update the camera accordingly as most videos I've seen people commented that after a little while the lines came back. Weird

Imzy... the yellow triangle in the top left hand corner of the screen indicates software is not setup my replacement camera showed the same symbol. I well do a search on you tube and see if I can find the appropriate video.

I'm sure Lexus will be happy to resolve the issue but it would be chargeable - tell your repairer to either fix the issue or you will be sending them a bill.

Thank you Ed. So many videos on YouTube how to calibrate but nothing about touchscreen like mine.

Appreciate your help.

Probably an easy peasy task making it so complicating. If they don't I will get my insurer to deal with it. It's a brand new 73plate.

Imran......... what a fiasco, unbelievable.

I searched Youtube and could only find videos that showed the audio and/or menu buttons as individual switches on the dashboard.

I'm not familiar with what's available on touch screens, are there no "icon tools" displaying Audio, Menu, Home, Settings, Bluetooth etc? I would have thought these are needed for owners to set/change update parameters.
