ES 300h - Update this Year?

Recommended Posts

  • 4 weeks later...

Lexus USA announce 2025 ES... essentially same as 2024 (i.e. continuation of 7th gen, no all-new 8th gen).

https://pressroom.lexus.com/back-in-black-lexus-es-black-line-special-edition-returns-for-2025/

It lists the 300h as having lithium-ion batteries;  I thought they were/are nickel-metal hydride - is the North American 300h different from the European model, or is this a change?

It also shows a 215hp vs the 178hp on UK ES with the nickel-metal hydride battery… so potentially there is a change in the hybrid system coming for the car next year?

That’s just total system vs engine power.

The ES300h in North America has used a Lithium Ion Battery for years, compared to the NiMH one we get in the UK.

Interesting - any idea why there's a difference?

You get slightly better boot space with the Lithium Ion pack which might be more important for the US market but I think it is really just diversification of supply chain. It's been the same in the past with the Prius and other models where some countries get one Battery chemistry to others.
