Just looking at front brake pads for my 2004 Celsior which are the same as the LS430 so first checked on LPD who have them at £78.35 plus £6.95 shipping ( I thought LOC members got free shipping?).

Next Amayama but they are coming through at £81.68 plus £35.17 shipping then add 20% VAT to the total.

Given the more frequent “No Longer Available” and the increase in prices particularly shipping costs I wonder if Amayama was the place to go for cheaper OEM Lexus parts.

Amayama were same price as Lexus for my pads.

Much, much cheaper for shocks.

Pot luck as to which items are cheaper.

My understanding is there is not duty on products from Japan under  £135 ?

There is no duty from any country if the the goods (inc.shipping) is under £135.

Steve is correct though in saying that there is still 20% VAT to be added.

VAT and customs duty are two different things.

Amayama has I understand several source bases to export to UK  …….. and one might be fortunate to get what one needs somewhat cheaper than RockAuto ,  LPD or Lexus/Toyota here in the UK

when you have the need then just explore those online opportunities ….. incl carriage too of course

Ive done very well from Amayama in past times with suspension stuff and have probably saved many many £00’s possibly a thousand or more …… replacement product might well last the car’s lifetime with you 😄

UK Govt Import Customs and VAT issues might change from time to time whatever ……

Depends on part, if parts are already available at reasonable cost in UK, then Amayama, Rockauto etc. will be more expensive due to shipping e.g. carpets are £60 from LPD, so there is no point paying similar price +£20 shipping from UAE, or even more from Japan.

However in other cases there are parts that costs £15 in Amayama, but £300 in UK, or they are simply not available in UK at all. For example gear shifter knob in UK is £298, in Amayama £60. Fuel tank strap is simply not available in UK in Amayama £12.

I guess this is usual thing of shopping around for best price. No site is ever best price for everything forever. Also it seems since LDP started selling part in UK we certainly have better availability than before and some parts are reasonably priced.

Ive been using Autodoc.co.uk.

Not always the same quality there though. For example the brembo brake discs aren't coated as well on the non friction surfaces as OEM.

you can get brembo on autodoc with the oem part number, well for RCF anyway

They have the OEM part number as reference, they aren't the same though - more than one member here has stated they aren't coated as well as the OEM ones - not that it really matters.

Autodoc also sell some low quality pattern parts so you need to be careful when selecting parts from them.

Autodoc is good for generic parts, like brake pads, discs, air filters, oils etc. But they don't have any Lexus specific parts at all.

Fensport have always been good lexus & toyota specialists for sporty models. That celsior is perhaps a bit too rare & old so you have to pay the prices.

I also used nengun.com & rhdjapan.com which are for parts imported from Japan.

Steve, you know I'm a great fan of Rockauto, Bosch Pads delivered including taxes and shipping £40.

Hi Phil,

Good to see you’re still watching.

Can you remember which pads are on at the moment?
Reason I ask is I have millimetres to spare in the garage getting the Celsior in and the door fully closed, I put a couple of wooden blocks on the floor in front of the tyres to avoid hitting the end wall.

I have to creep very slowly but at such a low speed the brakes are either on or off accompanied with a “ grunching” sound when released and a sudden lurch forward. In other words I can’t touch the blocks smoothly.

After a bit of digging this appears to be a common issue with modern brake pads so I was wondering if another make would make a difference.

The car is till running great with 3 advisory free MOTs since I bought it from you although I did have to spend £16.00 on it last week for a split passenger side wiper blade which by coincidence were also Bosch branded.

Still not clocked up 100K 😀

Just ordered a couple of front screen side trim pieces for my ISF from Amayama, and the prices were around the same as the best eBay prices, and cheaper than many. Amayama also quotes an all up delivered to door price inclusive of tax which takes any guesswork out of the equation. I like that a lot

Cheers...

Good to know she's still performing well! I can't remember which pads were put on, at my age I forget easily! I'm about to order Bosch ones for my Volvo as I've read good things about them. Sorry you had to spend £16, shocking!!

Useful info here - thanks. Having just acquired a 98 Camry I’m sure I’ll need to locate parts at some point and info here helps.

The odd Stop Lamp, wiper blades ……. You’ll buy those from the local store …….. anything major might never go awry in your lifetime UNLESS she’s happily taking you on some mega trips 😄

Love the colour …… similar to my 91 Ls400 ……..

Ive just used AUTODOC for my Honda Legend, rare as hens teeth,  radiator  …… and that seems to have arrived in 5 days from order, from Lithuania ok

I didn’t try Amayama or Rockauto   Just relieved to find one online at all at a “ sensible “ price £145 all-up, compared to the Honda Main Dealer that would have sourced from their EU Main Store in Belgium ! at £995 🥵

Nice looking rare car Chris 👍
