Hi all

Lexus UX 300e 2023 in UK

 

Regenerative Braking  Limited press brake to decelerate 

Whilst I totally understand the concept of the regenerative braking system and that the car for  various reasons limits that system, is there anyway to actually disable the annoying pop up warning on my dash. This is whilst car is in ‘D’. If I try to use the back arrow on the steering wheel, after 2-3 seconds the warning pops up again and I can’t see what I’ve chosen to see behind the warning.  Do I really need to know it’s limited and sometimes for 10 minutes of a journey for whatever reason or until the Battery is 80 or below.  Sometimes I need to charge to 90 to avoid paying the outrageous supermarket/service station tariffs in the UK. This shouldn't happen. Needs a dealer visit.

Not seen this message either and I regularly charge to 100% and drive in B mode all the time. 
Is it a feature of the long range version?

It's an error that can come up on either version but I certainly wouldn't expect to see it at 90%, possibly at 100% for a short while.

Thank you, it states this on the internet although not particularly referring to my car which is the long range, either way it’s pretty annoying.

Experienced owners know this message appears when the Battery is either cold, or has been fully charged’.

The message is documented in the manual:

If “Regenerative Braking Limited Press Brake to Decelerate” is displayed

Regenerative braking may be restricted in the following situations. Firmly depress the brake pedal to decelerate the vehicle.

• ●  When electrical energy cannot be regen- erated any more as the traction Battery is fully charged

• ●  When the temperature of the traction Battery is extremely high or extremely low

• ●  When the temperature of the electric motor or power control unit, etc. is extremely high

 

It makes sense when the Battery is full, and near full as the charing current has to be reduced, but at 80-95% that doesn't really make sense. I'd contact your dealer to log the issue and see if there is a software update to improve this.

Thank you I will keep my eye on this and see exactly when the warning is coming up, the other day on the motorway it was on for a good 5 mins under 80% charge and if it’s just a warning that it’s not available that’s fine as in that situation with or without the warning I’m going to be depressing the brake to slow down, it’s just removing that warning rather than it lingering is what I would like to achieve, but if it’s because there is a problem then I will definitely take your advice and log it with the dealership.

Hi Lisa, I have the same vehicle long range version and getting the same error whenever my vehicle is charged upto 100% and the warning keeps on appearing up until the Battery is 80%. I went to dealership to fix the problem and they are still investigating the issue. The constant warning is annoying and concerning also as its brake related. Were you able to get it fixed and what resolution was provided to you by your dealer ?

Hi well funnily enough I’ve recently had a few updates through the car console, although they seem to be related to voice updates I’ve accepted them, then approximately 2-3 weeks ago the warning stopped.  So at the moment I only get the warning if charged to 100% and then when it gets down to 95% it stops.  Although still annoying as it pings and remains on the dash so you can’t see the set up of that part of the dash at least it doesn’t last to long, but like you before this it was on till 80%.  It actually has nothing to do with the brakes themselves, what it means is that as you lift your foot off the accelerator and give yourself longer before you brake some charge goes back into the Battery, (regenerative braking) you can see that area on the speedometer, to be honest it’s minimal. So what it’s saying is that at 100% it can’t throw any charge back into the Battery because the Battery is fully or near to full charge, makes sense.  The problem really is, we couldn’t  care less whether or not braking slower can give back some extra charge and would much more prefer not to know and have a peaceful drive instead. 🤣

Same issue here. I really like my car, but this little thing is irritating.

Reading different forums I see that users go into explain what regenerative breaking is. Like Lisa I completely understand what it is and the logic behind it but really could not care less about it. It is a basic function of the vehicle and this "warning" is totally unnecessary and frankly dangerous.

Being warned that the simulated engine braking won’t be as strong as normal is worth warning the driver about. But it should just be once that the driver can acknowledge and clear, or maybe just a yellow warning symbol that comes up whist regen braking is impacted.

I agree, the warning should not be distracting the driver. I'm sure there are plenty of users out there that will be compelled to cancel the message every time it pops up.

So after successfully receiving updates via the console, one of them which must have updated this warning so that as I mentioned previously I was only getting the warning above 95% of Battery charge, now we’re into the colder weather in the UK the warnings back up intermittently for the whole journey (65% charge). I’ve read that the warning comes up when it’s extremely cold, the annoying thing is whilst driving it’s pinging and the warning is coming up, then when the car is idle, for example, in traffic or at traffic lights it goes off completely, so it’s off and on for all of a journey happily pinging away, both distracting and annoying.
