Has anyone ever had the airbag recall done and how recent was it?
Mine was booked for the beginning of January but the dealer rang me a few days beforehand to say they hadn’t received the part and would contact me when available. I am now wondering whether there is any stock now bearing in mind how old these cars are now.

My RX is due for a service and MOT in 3 weeks time I will enquire what’s happening about the part.

Annoyingly I spent some time cleaning the car as I wanted to show off the car but I have driven the car recently and with the rubbish weather it’s dirty again. Also my knee is really playing up at the moment so washing it is out of the question and it’s not going near a car wash.

My current SC430 had the passenger air/bag recall done in 2019.

My previous SC was done around the same time .

Paul type your Reg in here …

https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/

a recall reminder comes up ☹️

For me the strange thing is when I put in my Reg No in on that site it says there are no recalls outstanding  for my car yet according to Lexus they have no record of it ever being done.

I find the Lexus recall site unreliable…I have a FOC dealer invoice saying my car has had the airbags sorts ….yet their recall website says outstanding 🙄.

my opinion …if the DVLA mot site say it’s okay then it’s fine.

Did read last year that recalls could be added to the mot check sheet, and could failure on safety concerns …but clearly it’s not happened….yet !

They were probably refering  to your car when they said outstanding 👏 🤣

Free health check! Sir, we can replace your leaking shocks for £2000?

Or am I just cynical?

I would think all mechanics are encouraged by management to look for work with a “free” safety check ☹️

The RX was in the dealership today for a service and MOT so I asked what is happening about the airbag for the SC. Apparently the parts guy said it is on back order and could take another month to come into stock. I am not sure I understand what he meant when he said they do a recall every 5 years for the airbag. He also said they need the car for two days to fix it.  I willl give them a ring in a months time for an update.

So after a four month wait the air bag part is now in stock and the car is in today for two days. I had to explain to them all the extras fitted with the additional wiring plus the TPMS is disconnected and that the blessed headlamp leveling system is playing up again. Hopefully every thing will go well.

I had some trim damage to the Centre console when got my previous car back ☹️
So try give the job a good look over before you leave the dealer.

In contrast, many members on a previous Lexus forum had no problem at all 👍🏻

Just picked the car up today following the airbag recall after having had the car for 3 days. I haven’t notice any squeaks or rattles so far and got a clean health check. Only issue is the throttle controller doesn’t work anymore. If it’s connected the car won’t start so it’s now disconnected. Guess I will have to buy a new one.

Does the throttle controller have a mode that acts as an immobiliser? My Sprintboosters don't but I seem to remember at least one of the controllers have the feature.

Thanks for trying to help Neil. I've not had time myself to try yet as it is still disconnected. It does have a lock feature that stops the engine being accelerated but that doesn't prevent the engine being started,  According to the mechanic when I spoke to him over the phone he said when it was connected the  car would not start and the display of the throttle controller did not light up, I can only think that the connecting wire has got damaged or the display unit has packed up caused by the work carried out as it was working fine before otherwise they wouldn't have been able to drive it into the workshop.  if if was something that was a standard fitment on the car I would expect them to put it right.

I bought it direct from China for around £40 so I will probably just buy another one rather than trying o repair this one.

The SC430Mods controller sounds a simpler mechanism in the sense of functionality. That is ,no displays etc. Just 3 buttons for mode selection. It's more than £40, but I can say I have never had any issue with the way it works.

I did have the SC430mods one originally but sold it as I wanted one with a lock function as an extra level of theft protection. They are all basically are the same and made in China.

The lead into the display is delicate. Any bending on it results in intermittent signal. Mine is too flaky to use....cheap Chinese one using nasty apple connector.

Interestingly the SC430mods one I did have is exactly the same display and the same apple connector as the one I bought direct from China
