Interesting that you should say that Ken. Our NX450 goes in for its 2nd year service shortly and one thing I have mentioned to the service team is that it doesn’t really seem to go into EV mode when running in hybrid mode on petrol.

For the first 12 months it used to switch between fuel and EV when in HV and would regularly give 50mph plus on long journeys after the initial battery charge had depleted. These days it only gives 45mph plus.

It would be interesting to know what the outcome will be after your service.

I am not too familiar with the system, should it show on the dashboard when in hybrid mode? I had a day run of about 170 miles a couple of weeks ago with a depleted Battery, never felt or noticed in ev mode except at speed of below 12/13 mph and yet on the app shows 33% in hybrid even on mostly motorway speed??

I will report back after the service, albeit the service is 4 weeks away.

Yes, when the car slips into EV when driving in hybrid mode it will show EV on the dash underneath HV. Going into EV when driving at 60mph+ is what used to happen, depending on driving conditions of course.

Hi Ken

I’m intrigued to hear overall consumption of 50+ mpg . I get that sort of figure showing in the app after a long trip but that includes the electric ev only range. Driving gently, under the speed limit (av 45mph). So not sure I could get close to 50 just using standard hybrid.  Is the app only showing me the mpg when in HV or is it showing the overall combined HV and EV figure?

Another question I have is when I switch to HV mode I still seem to lose some of the EV range. I thought it would gradually increase from regen but it actually reduces a little.

Got to say the RX makes a long journey so easy. Loving the car.

Interesting David. I had not thought of looking at mpg on the Lexus Link+ app, but this week I did several trips with a fully depleted traction Battery and the app gave me the following mpg figures:

11 miles on local roads 49.7 mpg

3 m on local roads 46.2 mpg

4 m on local roads 48.3 mpg

69 m on motorway at 70 mph 41.1 mpg

My previous claim of 51 mpg was the dashboard indicated figure of HV taken over a period of about 8 days, with a depleted traction Battery, on local roads, but not sure of the mileage done. The next experiment is to switch to E5 fuel instead of E10!

The consumption displayed in the car and on the app will be the combined ev/hv figure.

When in hv mode I have found there will be both a reduction in total ev range when the ev power takes over from the ice and an occasional increase through regeneration depending on road conditions. My 50+mpg journey was entirely in hv mode (and with E5 petrol) and the ev range only fluctuated by 2 miles over the entire journey.   As you say a long journey in the RX is so comfortable!

Did an exclusive ev journey yesterday involving motorway and city driving achieving 49.5 miles before the ice cut in.

Refuelled again today and the overall result is 73.44mpg after converting electrical recharges costs to current petrol cost. Ran the car in HV mode only for the last week and was achieving an impressive 55mpg. Overall consumption based on the above fuel/electricity calculation is 70.99mpg over 3400 miles. This is better than I achieved with my NX450H  (overall 52.65mpg over 17k miles) albeit electricity prices have dropped considerably. Will do a more exact comparison in due course.

Excellent result Ken.

On EV full charge I am now getting 50 miles range with A/C off. Not bought any petrol for a while.

Another month and a further refuelling after 749 miles since the last fuel stop. Overall result was a very satisfying 84.63mpg after conversion of electric recharge costs to latest petrol cost. Brim to brim fills used for the petrol element and includes 5 days away from home and running exclusively on the ice. Quite amazing for a car of this size and weight - heading towards an average of mid 70's over 4139 miles.

Refuelled today for the sixth time since taking delivery in March. Overall consumption since the last fuel stop was 76.76mpg after conversion of electric recharge costs to latest petrol costs. Again it's on a brim to brim basis for calculation purposes. Have been using the ICE more frequently over the past 6 weeks due to being away from home. Temperatures reducing have also impacted on the EV range. Average over 5150 miles is now 74.17mpg on the above basis.

Hi Ken

ive only had my RX 450H+ for a few weeks and covered about 1000 miles. I’ve done one 200 mile plus journey and after the 40 miles on EV I got about empty on HV.

According to the app I have averaged 70% on EV usage with the latest 174 miles averaging 118mpg. I do a lot of urban driving and recharge at home.

Hope that helps

Richard

That's a decent result. I'm just back from a short break and using HV mode only (as there was no opportunity to recharge) I have averaged c56mpg based in brim to brim refuelling which is pretty good for a large, heavy SUV.
