Hi friend

Hope all is good with everyone at the club, Question; I have an March 2018 200CTh from new with 20k miles on the clock and is due its service, I got quoted from the Lexus dealership "The National Service Plan" until Feb 2026 which includes...service A (intermediate)and service B (full) costing £790 for both....do you think they're overcharging?

Thanks in advance,

Paul

A service plan is priced at the current list prices which are published on the Lexus website, you can probably negotiate a 10% saving with your local dealer.

'morning Spock66,

Thank you for taking the time to answer my query, I will take this on board and suggest if they can reduce the cost.... being a loyal customer for 10yrs, I suppose having a good service history from Lexus is beneficial in the long run and their services are carried out to a high standard which gives me confidence in trouble free motoring.

cheers!

The standard fixed price for the Major Service is £505 and the lesser one £285 so they're charging you the same as what I was quoted in the last two wees. Seems pretty standard. Of course, being Lexus it won't be the cheapest car to service but they don't seem to be particularly over charging you personally over anybody else which is a positive

For cars up to 10 years old you get a 1 year relax extended warranty as part of the service. They call it a free warranty but in reality it is part of the service cost and goes some way to explain why Lexus are extremely expensive to service compared to the competition.

On the plus side the longer contract you can get the more you save. The new contract price is fixed for the term, on current day prices.

My final major service of a three year term is due in March and will be a decent saving when comparing the increases over the last 3 years.

Hopefully I will be able to push for a new 3year with an interest free, monthly direct debit.

I have just agreed a new 3 year service contract for 2A and 1B services which includes 3 MOT's @ £1,220 its the going current rate of £285 for the A's and £505 for the B and 3 MOT's @ £49 each.

The price is locked in so any parts or labour increases over the term, is at the dealers expense. It will consist of 32 x £38 interest free Monthly payments

Thank you..... I've taken that on board but  dobelieve these costs are worth going with Lexus knowing its quality workmanship :-)

Hi Paul,

I am in a bit of a quandary about this issue myself, I also have a 2018 CT 200, which I just purchased a little over one month ago. like you my annual mileage is only around 3K, for us to get an annual service from Lexus this hikes up the cost per mile to us to a lot more than someone that does an average of 7.5K in the year, same goes for the Road Tax we pay, fortunately for us the insurance company's take this into consideration but I would guess this is just a small reduction in the whole scheme of things?

Throughout my life, now an old Coffin Dodger in my 70's, I've never paid out for any extended warranties on any of my material possessions, most of my Cars were bought at over 3yrs of age and out of warranty and many I had for 10yrs, when I did buy one at a year old with two years warranty left on it, this cost me a fortune in servicing costs and a few hidden charges from the main dealer.

Likely the reason for most of us to buy Toyota/Lexus is for their reputation to be the most reliable Cars on the road today, so I'm wondering if I should just carry on as I did before and use my local guy to do my servicing and take the hit if anything does go wrong with it? up till now I have been very lucky and had little of any problems with Cars throughout my 50 plus years of motoring, as for having a dealer service history I'm not overly concerned with this, the cost to maintain this (especially for a low mileage user) will far outweigh the added value at the end of the day, anyway in my advanced years this is likely this will be the last Car I will ever own.

For Lexus to give you the relax warranty they are backing and odds on favourite that very little will go wrong with their Cars, but this reals in their customers to pay their high cost of servicing.

Cheers

Dave

Certainly no need to pay high Lexus service charges just to get a poor warranty. If you are concerned about the Battery then you can always service with an independent and then just purchase an separate hybrid health check from Lexus for around £60 which gives you 12 month warranty on the traction Battery.

I don't think £285 for A and £500 for B is over expensive for a service. Way below what you would pay for a Jag or a Merc service. Having spent many years in the car repair market, I have found that opting for the so called cheaper independent option  who complete the work in half the time is not always a wiser choice. A bit like some DIYers saying how much they have saved servicing their own cars, yet only doing the oil and filter once a year. If main dealers get x amount of negative feed back over a period of time they are in danger of losing the factory franchise, especially with a brand like Lexus. To each there own I guess, lol!

I've just booked my Lexus in for it's 10th service, so another year relax free warranty, if I decided to sell it, it will go with a bigger warranty than Evans H gives, but it's probably the last one it will get at the MD.
