Hello everyone, newbie here...

I'm looking to downsize from my RX450h to a UX250h as the RX is bigger than I need now and I'd like something smaller, especially when driving the narrow unlit B roads at night where I live.

The RX has a snow mode option which engages the rear electric motor.

How does the E-FOUR on a UX250h work and how is it engaged?

It’s computer controlled so when it detects the slightest slip at the front it brings in a corresponding amount of assistance from the rear.  I use the word assistance because it isn’t a full powered rear motor but in my experience it does a good job especially with all season tyres.  The 300h which launches later in the year has a very powerful motor if that is important to you.   In both cases the rear motor links in with the VSC to improve stability in difficult conditions.

Active in all modes, exactly the same as your RX (you don't need snow mode to activate the rear motor, it is always used when needed for performance, stability or traction).
