That might be right about the price jack. However, standing asie objectively on this car ,and remember I have already seen it in depth, I would say it shouldn't. That is based upon my view that get a car at a sensible price below 10k like this one is and costing in what still needs doing it makes sense on a value basis. If i had to guess at the sticking point I suspect it will be the colour. First the pics don't really capture the colour that well and secondly this colour probably does not feature that highly on many people's list of wants.

When I look at what Steve and Bob paid and what they needed to do afterwards then this car meets the same criteria, but of course it ain't Blue !!

Having had all my shocks done I would say this is a much more pressing consideration than a cam belt replace. Looking at my old ones one was shot to hell.

A car with replaced shocks AND a new exhaust should be pounced upon!

Well after a month of ownership I’ve decided that bought wisely (and with the help of my Forum Friends) these are incredible value for money. Pound for pound smiles I don’t think they can be beaten.

I wanted a car that made me want to drive anywhere and everywhere …… not just to get from A to B but to enjoy the experience of getting there. 

Im one very happy SC430 owner.

You done very well with your purchase Gary, and I’m guessing no other problems other that getting it serviced ?

Touch wood Bob. 
No issues and my mechanic friend said it was a great car for the money. No rust or rot and everything works as it should. 
I replaced the front grille because I felt it spoiled the overall look of the car having been painted the same colour as the car.

Ive had a throttle controller fitted which I’m happy with. When I want the car to be a bit more responsive, I can now have it.

Cam belt, water pump and plugs all replaced along with a full service.  
I’ve also spent some time treating the leatherwork which has paid dividends. Now looks really good although it wasn’t that bad to start with. 
So, assuming nothing untoward happens, I’ve spent £4625 in total but have a fully serviced, health checked SC.

Im going to run it for a year or so and if I carry on enjoying it as much as I am now, may upgrade to a late model, low mileage one in my preferred colour of blue or the dark red. 
How’s things with you Bob? Are you getting any miles under your belt and what plans have you got for yours?

Not used it much ..went to brooklands museum car show on New Year’s Day, spent more time working on it than driving it …but then that’s me until I’m happy with it 👍🏻

Sounds nice and sunny around Preston. Here we get rain about 95% of the time. The other 5% is usually snow or hail.

You will notice that most North facing walls are green. Also, most grids are blocked with mud and leaves so there will be some nice big puddles. Potholes! - Don't even go there!😎

North facing walls are Moss Green. All other cardinal facing walls are a shade of mossy green.

Yup I was looking at that one. I spoke to them, and the reason they jacked the price up is because they did the timing belt and water pump. Nice colour and reg number on it though.

I tried to buy that grey 2008 model in Bristol that was only £8995 but just missed out on it. I also put a bid of £6750 in for this 2005 facelift but it ended up going for £7870: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/335298335258 . I've also seen this one locally to me but £8995 feels too much for a pre-facelift model: https://www.carandclassic.com/car/C1686651 . 

I ended up buying this one for £5695: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202403177680656?sort=price-asc&advertising-location=at_cars&make=Lexus&model=SC&postcode=EH15 1BL&fromsra - I negotiated a little discount off the auto trader price because the timing belt needed done. It's getting serviced by Lexus Croydon next week and I'll be picking it up the week after. It is on the mileage high side (167,000) but a facelift model for less than 6 grand was too good to pass. So long as it's been looked after (16 Lexus service stamps) I can't see why this car won't do another 167,000 miles. Elite Motor Company are a Lexus specialist and so I think I'm in good hands.

Technically your car is still below the average and good on you for not being afraid of a few miles.

    The American and Australia example do 250k with drama, it’s just underside corrosion that can be an issue in the UK.

lexus with do a safety check as well, so will tell you anything they find. Just don’t rush into any advisory work straight away 👍🏻👍🏻

I guess how much of a premium depends on the details we don't know about. However, if the usual costly stuff was all in good order then frankly I think the premium is not that big. 2k?

I am on record don't overpay for low mileage cars when the engine can do so much more, but combine that low mileage with a well sorted car coming with no other immediate costs and in my view it should be beyond my magic 10k number. Going to be at least a couple on this forum who are coming in at circa 12k (buy + upgrade costs) for a higher mileage car so is this one overpriced? Probably , but not by megabucks and that's just their starting price so time for it to improve.

How many 34,000 mile cars will have had a recent cambelt change? Is it miles or age that kills shocks, belts and exhaust?

Agreed that price is ok if everything is good though and a car that is one owner and has been garaged all its life is very appealing.

I have just passed the £10k total spend mark with buying a new Battery. New exhaust will be next biggie.
