I have tried all sorts, but whenever I want the high beam on I have to pull back the lever and hold it, as soon as I release the lever the high beam goes out.

Any ideas?

Push the lever forwards - away from you.

Then backward for dip. Pull again towards you for main beam flash.

If pushing away from you doesn't put main beam on, you have a fault.

Is there no auto high beam function?

There's an auto headlight function. Whether the lights are then on high or dip beam depends on the position of the headlight lever (switch).

There isn't an auto dip function on my 2014 car - I don't know if there is on facelift Phase 4 GS cars.

Personally I hate auto headlights. People depend on them too much, and there are lots of situations where headlights are necessary (or at least desirable) where the auto function doesn't work - eg in fog, rain, low sun etc.

I have tried the std headlight setting and the Auto, neither will allow the High Beam to be on. In fact on the std beam setting, when I pull the lever for high beam the Auto sign on the dash comes on whilst the lever is pulled

In practice this time of year with a lot of night driving it is a bit of a faff. What I do is have the auto high beam switched on for fast roads and motorways where it works well, but as soon as I hit roads where I am likely to be going under 40 mph I turn back to manual as that is when you have no high beam on auto unless holding the stalk as you described. Hope that helps
