What's the proper name of the colour of the 'Grey' LC500 in this picture, and was it the only shaded of grey available?

Looks stunning here, but I have seen other grey cars where I thought the paint looked a little 'flat'. I get this may just look so good because of the lighting...

Cadoxton Slate. A good bit of metallic fleck in it…but you know you really want yellow. I’d love a yellow one.

Going to look at a car this weekend.

If anyone hears of any of the normal LC 21" wheels for sale 2nd hand, then please get in touch. Also potentially interested in any after-market 21" wheels, depending on style obviously.

They did (different to the RC F colour):

Yes only one. It is a sonic paint with 5 layers which gives it depth and will look different depending on the angle and lighting conditions. Digital cameras struggle with red but those pictures look particularly inaccurate - they appear to have been processed - I doubt the car has been wrapped a different colour.

I'm a bit confused now, as I have been told the car I was going to look at is Mesa Red, not Sonic Red. I thought this car looked more burgundy in the photo's but was attributing that to the poor lighting. There is at least one other car advertised as being Mesa Red, while most others state Sonic Red, or just Red or even infra-red.

If indeed the above is correct and there is both Sonic & Mesa Reds, then I think I prefer the Sonic as it seems more vibrant.

As far as i am aware they only do one red on the LC , this Sonic Red with the paint code 3T5

As you can see same car  in different light

I guess someone could mistake Sonic for Mesa Red (3R1) if you didn't have two cars side by side to compare - Mesa Red is a 3 stage paint available on several Lexus models, but not the LC.

Best to try and get the paint code if you are unsure. Names are commonly wrong because Lexus use a different name for the same colour in many different countries, and then Toyota do the same. So you may find 10+ names all for the same colour which can be confusing.

Thanks very much for that. Yes, I believe you are right. It was a main dealer that told me yesterday theirs is Mesa Red, but having just spoken to another main dealer, he has said that is incorrect and that there was only Sonic Red.

It's surprising just how different the car looks in different lighting, but at least it's one less thing for me to have to decide on!

I had a mesa red ISF and now a sonic red RCF. They are different shades of red and I understand sonic red is a lot harder to match if repairs are needed; I recall being told it is a 5 step paint process...whatever that means.

No doubt means it's 5 x the price to repair!

Still, could be worse, could be Structural Blue.

My Mesa Red ISF looked really quite burgundy/flat on a ‘dreek’ Scottish day.  Brilliant in the sun however.

Sonic red seems a bit lighter/brighter.

Looks like the factory did offer another red (3S0) but wasn't available as an option in this country to my knowledge:

That's a good summary, with the Sonic Red looking more vibrant in a greater range of conditions. Both colours are spectacular under yellow lights at night time garages though.

I finally got to see a Sonic Grey, Sonic Red and White car in the flesh yesterday, and now definitely have set my heart on the red.

There is a car that could be suitable, but it has the tan interior. I guess that's a bit of a marmite colour, but will go and check it out to see what I think of it in the flesh.

Tan interior is the sign of a true gentleman!  I’m very jealous of those that are able to have it.  Was never an option in the RCF, far too brash a car I assume!

I started looking at the market a while ago with a view to buying early next year, something like a Vantage, R8, 911, AMG GT, etc; all the usual suspects. I then became aware of the LC500, and it pretty much shot to the top of my list, and the more I have watched and read, the more I want one. I'm of an age where out and out performance doesn't matter to me, but I want something a little different, and a decent soundtrack is a must, as I miss my last V8.

It needs to be a Coupe Sport+, and probably red or white (or maybe 'copper'), but I think with a black interior. I really want a 21 or later model due to the updates.

It has slowly dawned on me how few of these are around, and that the right car for me isn't going to come up very often. For that reason, I started thinking about ordering a new one, only to see the bombshell announcement that the order books are closed. Makes me want one all the more to be honest, and although I wasn't really looking at buying for another few months, if the right car comes up before that, I may have to go for it.

At present, there are no cars for sale that are what i'm after, but there are a few 2017 - 2020 cars. The official car reviewers always make a big deal out of any updates saying they transform the car on the 21 and later cars, but is it that big a difference in the real world? I'm wondering if I should consider an earlier car, or do I just wait for something newer to come up?

Hi DD

I’ve had a Vantage 911 etc etc

Trying to retire and don’t want silly running cost

so for reliability my only choice was the 911 to LC500

if the Porsche is over 3 years old, you have warranty at over £1000 per year

and servicing at about £1000-1500

with the LC you have a service about £450 and that includes a warranty

OK the car doesn’t quite have the Kudos of the Vantage or 911 but it is a much better car . And the interior is on the level of a Bentley.

Saw a yellow one in the flesh today for the first time and loved it (I had discounted them really). When I first started looking there was a yellow 2023 ex-demo Sports Plus for sale for very good money. Wish I had gone to see it now and perhaps snapped it up.

Two separate trips to Main Dealers have been a bit under-whelming if i'm honest. Both knew I was coming, but cars were dirty. I had to actually ask them to move the car out as it was so close to another car, you couldn't see one side, and then it wouldn't even start as Battery was totally flat so they had to jump it (with me helping hold the Battery pack so it didn't damage anything). Not a great look - surely it's the basics to check for this stuff.

I know a lot of modern cars go flat if not left on trickle charge (both my Vantage and Giulia were bad for this), though I could leave my Audi for months and pretty sure it would start first time. Is it know on these that there can be a large Battery drain? They said it had only been left for a couple of weeks; so that would be me stranded at the airport after a two-week holiday! Car is only a year old, so shouldn't need a new Battery.

Red and Tan (ochre) was exactly the spec I wanted and waited for.

Each to their own but the other options for me would have been black on red, or white on red.

If I could choose some of the oversea options, in a heart beat manhattenage interior and black exterior. I would LOVE that combo.

It looks to be a similar colour to the isF which is very dark grey. it looks black in the shade. The proper official name for the colour is "lexus grey wot looks black but has some lovely metallic sparkles in it" or "Grey Innit" for short.

I was wrong - there were two reds originally available in the UK, although they did drop the burgundy one after a couple of years

Don’t let this put you off. Whilst they may have been sloppy with the sale, the service and post purchase experience is different.

I’m a big fan of bold colours, including yellow.

Any issues (which in all likelihood will be niggles like a Battery pack getting on) will be dealt with under the warranty.

I must admit it left a sour taste, as did not getting to test drive the 2nd car after driving a 6hr round trip to see it.

I must have been a bit miffed as I found myself in my local Aston Martin dealer this afternoon looking at a couple of very nice Vantages that they have. The 'New' face-lifted Vantage is due out in the next couple of weeks, so will be interesting to see the impact on 2nd hand values.

I'm still very much looking at LC's though... what's the deal with the wheels on this car; not sure if I like the effect or not.
