Worried about the crime figures for Lexus, so I had a look at the handbook. Apparently it is possible to turn an electronic key onto “battery saving mode” ie turn it off. If I understand it correctly this should stop crooks from cloning the key remotely. On the key fob press “open” twice whilst simultaneously holding “lock”. The fob flashes four times to confirm it is off. It is turned back on simply by pressing “unlock “. It works on mine.

Mine was stolen early November, don’t think your suggestion would have helped, it was taken by the canbus method through the headlights, my keys were nowhere near the car in Faraday pouches.

That'll help with relay thefts, but as Antony above wrote, that'll not help with canbus thefts.

There’s a report in the Mail today about car crime, it mentions Lexus thefts, can’t remember the stats (or be bothered to look them up) but they were up massively

I looked it up, 513% increase, which means, along with the dismissive answer I received from Lexus head office, I will no longer be a Lexus owner even if I get my car back

Do you have a link or a picture with the article? That sounds about right... I'm 1 million % sure that Lexus is aware of this and they won't admit it until is too late...

Forget about key cloning. CAN theft is what you should be worried. My car was stolen 2 weeks ago... If you want to still find the car the next morning make sure you fit an immobilizer and a tracking system, but damage will still be done... read the thread about CAN BUS theft! The administrators from this website mixed all conversations about all people discussing about their stolen ES so it might be very difficult to read or understand...

The article is in the Daily Mail. A shocking increase although the ES was not mentioned specifically, the SUV models are the main targets apparently.

If my ES ever gets stolen and not recovered it will get me out of my PCP deal as I have the GAP cover, so I will not lose out financially, apart from increased insurance costs on a non Lexus model unless I give up driving altogether, because I am in my mid seventies and do not enjoy driving as much as used to, might be time to call it a day.

I'm also in my 70s and can see where you are coming from, although I think it will take an actual unnerving driving incident to make me give up driving. With the standard of driving on the roads these days that may not be far off!
