The Telegraph now reports Audi is scaling back EV production due to lack of demand. I believe Volkswagen have already done so. Battery technology is just not good enough.

Nio's Battery swapping may solve the brick problem when the Battery fails to accept charge after a decade depending on what contract you have with them as well as the issue of queues at charging points and if you can buy a plug-in Nio, it might offset the issue of being tied to a monopoly supplier of batteries. You'd also have to ensure it has LiFePo4 so that it doesn't burn down your garage.

However, there's still the issue of batteries needing to be warmed up when cold and cooled down when hot, though that's only a major issue if it won't accept charge when it's cold. The only remaining issue is the weight, with some concern whether multi-storey car-parks can take it.

I thomk Toyota have cracked the Battery issue facing current electric cars, not lithium based.

It means electric cars can run for longer on a quicker charge and less impact on raw materials nd environment.

Apologies donr kknowwhat these are made of..

Toyota recently announced a new Battery electric vehicle factory that will begin production of new models in 2026. Not only will these cars be designed and built differently, they will be powered by a range of new, advanced batteries.

Details of four next generation batteries have been revealed, demonstrating state-of-the-art advances in both liquid and solid electrolytes. Toyota has also previewed further progress with solid electrolyte Battery technology.

Hahahaha  nope, there’s a relatively new Japan centric Toyota hydrogen power big saloon Ls type genre

I’ll be buying one when it’s proven and it can be refuelled at say a BP petrol station ….. BPs developing their hydrogen vehicle fuel capacity somewhere in the north of England …… to probably roll out to their 1200 stations around the UK …… at some time ……. for trucks anyway !

I’ll rebadge my new Toyota hydrogen car to a Ls700 if Lexus don’t beat me to it 😂

The hydrogen Mirai in the UK was Toyotas trial ….to. police forces whatever

Let’s see ……. maybe £125k will sort it for me …… a new company car for me in about 2026 maybe 🥳

A dream or it might become reality …… my simple existing  2 X Ls400s will suffice in the meantime I’m thinking ….. I’ll not stress over it for sure

Technology moves fast my friend. Perhaps running on water or some fusion.

But then again aren't there small planes with folding wings that can drive?

Will watch out for your ls700 and hydrogen fuel stations if they get setup here up North

I won’t be at all surprised …… either way. Technology moves apace and Toyota one of the best motor innovators with big budgets for all sorts of developments

I think my £125k will be safe staying in the bank 😂

Ok. Where’s my Lexus Ls700 Hydrogen Power limo ?

First time I’ve seen it, last night tv advert for Toyota showing off their all embracing car power driven offerings INCLUDED Hydrogen Power

Anyone seen a hydrogen powered car in the UK yet apart from maybe the Police Mirai that’s possibly now been withdrawn

Toyota lead and Lexus badging should shortly follow hopefully …….. then the only thing to hold me back could be this daft TPMS requirement that causes newer car owners so much angst !

Toyota won't give it up. They'll continue to explore it from the research side of things. Not least because the Japanese government is also interested in funding / sustaining research in Hydrogen too.

In the UK we need more stations... there's 1 in NI and it's 70 miles from me. Which I'd be fine with if I could get double the range from the Mirai, I'd factor in the drive twice a month.  The EV interests probably won't let that happen and businesses are already being hassled to waste space installing chargers... which around here, hilariously tend to have some old beat out Passat parked in them even with plenty of other spaces free. Poor EV owners.

BP is developing it's hydrogen plant production in the North of England somewhere . and have 1200+ petrol stations in this Kingdom !

We'll get the availability sometime soon, well, in the next 3 years methinks !

It's seems we're being given little choice except to buy a BEV or stick with ICE cars we already own. I see no mention of upgrading the grid to cope. UK scientists have even gone to the extraordinary length of denouncing the Toyota Mirai as the official car of the Olympics in France, claiming that the hydrogen they use when and if we buy them will come from fossil fuels.

Well that is sadly the problem, there is no other way it can come from.

Hydrogen cars I consider to be already solved tech, the problem is that hydrogen as a fuel is dirty... or not profitable (if made from renewables).

Hydrogen will be very relevant if we ever get nuclear fusion.

There’s already common HGV and Bus usage of Hydrogen Power in Europe ……. I’m assuming the professionals understand it’s cleaner than normal ICE however it’s facilitated ……. and it’s well proven

Do the green brigade want us to just abandon motorised transport for everything …… and get on a bike 🤔

Coz there’s never going to be enough electrikity generated to power-up even a fraction of the number of EVs that’s being proposed in the UK alone

The closest answer, to my mind, for now for clean fuel creation and pumping out clean emissions  is probably hydrogen

The rest is simply “ pie in the sky “ so……. “ get on ur bike “ 🤣😂

You know... that is actually what they want. It is just communism, they fundamentally hate private anything... so it not so much that they care about environment or pollution, but they just don't like people to be able to independently drive anywhere they want.

At first they seem to advocate for environment etc... but when you start prying then it becomes obvious they just don't want any type of transport that isn't public.

I work at Toyota uk & I can tell you that they recently completed a project for Hilux, they made a load of Hydrogen powered Hilux prototypes & I see a hydrogen powered passenger bus driving around the plant too so just based on my own eyes, id say they didnt give up on hyrdogen at all. Im sure there must be a business & financial & advertising, cabon offestting/net zero benefit to it all for them to continue when its not very profitable though.
