I once had a Alfasud 1.5 ti which was good to drive,handled well and had a tuneful exhaust note. On a whim i later bought a Pontiac Firebird,like Kitt from Knight Rider it was really quick in a straight line and handled reasonably except when it was wet.

Sports cars : TVR Griffith x 2, Maserati Grancabrio MC, R107 Merc 500SL, Alpina B3 convertible.

Not sports cars : Tesla P100D (0-60 in 2.5 seconds), Kia Stinger, Audi A7, another CLS55 with the supercharger, original square Audi 80 Sport, VW Corrado with a 2 litre Audi engine and twin carbs, and lots of slower stuff.

My first Lexus is both the newest and the most expensive car I've ever bought, and also probably the best!

I remember getting excited about the acceleration on a 205 turbo diesel we had.

Once got wheelspin in third gear in a Saab 9000 turbo....that was a a trouser moment as well.

.....and I hurt my back when I floored the GS450h.

 

A Scottish chicane in a Capri with three passengers that could have ended with four dead students in a ditch. I dined out on my driving skills, but was really just very lucky in hindsight.

 

And I can't believe the most I have EVER paid for a car is a Honda jazz!

Marcus, how did you find your Subaru Impreza WRX ?  We had one that had been super-chipped they told me and was just AMAZING …… comparatively speaking …. I never drove an “ ordinary “ one so wouldn’t know 😂

It was good though the gearbox was the star of the show….as an RA it’s really short ratios and it makes such a difference to the driving experience.  At the time I liked it, not sure I would have one now though to daily drive.  My palette is a little more refined as I’ve aged….I’m growing soft!

My son had a Subaru Impreza WRX STI Prodrive that was souped up. It was hard to drive because it was so quick. About 400BHP  4Wdrive and weighed nothing. It went around corners at unbelievable speeds.

He sold it for £7K. Today it is worth £25K+. He should have kept it. Mind you, he did buy an IsF afterwards.

I’d imagine these super souped up Subaru Impreza WRXs are just about uninsurable these days !

They can be insured at a reasonable price  ( sub £1000 ) but you have to go to a specialist who accepts modified cars without charging a stupid premium.

As an old school Honda guy thats a nice selection of fast Hondas there Marcus.

Rob hi. just as an aside …….My other car is a 2006 Honda Legend 3.5ltr now on 146k mikes which I’ve had for 7 years

she’s very comfy and quite quick and fast and AWD so helps out with the snow and ice that my Ls400s are USELESS at 

Shes also ULEZ proofed for when we visit London stuff 

she indoors loves driving the Honda but I so much prefer my V8 4ltr Lexus limos 👌

sorry I can’t name one but will have to say 3

Triumph Herald convertible was my first car and having that freedom at 18

is hard to beat

Second the Mercedes 2.3 CLK convertible, my first new car

and my first car of that sort of value and I loved it

Third the Aston Martin Vantage, the car I regret selling the most 

And no matter What else I’ve had An Aston is what always draws me back

Hopefully my next car will be the ne shape Vantage

My favorite... difficult choice.

The 64xke and the 356c Porsche happened 50 years ago so any pain associated with those cars has long since vanished. I can only remember that I thoroughly enjoyed owning such machines in my 20s. How could I not? 

I purchased my next sporty car in my early 50s and it was '91 MR2 Turbo. That was indeed a sporty car. Light, agile, and everything about the car just fit. As they say "everything falls to hand". Bulletproof Toyota dependability and just an ideal car for US roads. Quick but not stupid fast as was the MR2s' replacement. It ranks very high on my car list.

The MR2 begot another Porsche, a 997s. I never really came to like that car. To complex with all the driver 'enhancements' and WAY too fast to enjoy how fast it could be. Fine for tracking but wasted on the street. And... you only get about 8000 miles out of a set of $600 rear tires. Not for me.

My current car is the '24 LC500. It has all the driver 'enhancements' of the Porsche but for whatever reason I now rather enjoy them. It doesn't seem to me to be a car that I want to rocket around in. Rather I motor serenely about above the crowd and I quite like it there. 

My age and memory forbid me from choosing my favorite. My 20s were so long ago I can't reliably judge those cars and the newer cars, less the 997, were (are) exceptional. Even the Porsche was exceptional I suppose, just not for me.

That said the MR2 with the manual trans was the most enjoyable drivers car. But an LC with a manual transmission would likely top the list. 

All-in-all, when dollars are considered, it's hard to beat the MR2 but for an old man with enough money, I'll take the LC.

Much appreciated, the B-series is my favourite in line 4 though the accord H22 is sweet too!  Would love to get hold of a Crx SIR now but the cost is too high for get will probably be a bit of a disappointment to drive!

Me too; with 5 Imprezas: 98 Turbo, 00 Turbo. 04 WRX Prodrive, 05 STi Prodrive. 2008 STi

I then became a civilised grown up with the ISF then RCF. 

And now a Legacy Spec B as a winter car

Similar to yourself it's more to do with the time of life. My first car was a Vauxhall Cavalier, which I purchased at an auction in east London. However, I enjoyed my 3rd car a 2-litre Opel Manta young, free, and single. Rover SD1 3.5 was also great too.

More recently I had an early Boxster and several MX-5s as I try and go and do a track day every year. Would like a later 2009 2.9-litre Boxster at some point. Currently have an early Mazda Eunos which suits my budget and weekend fun car.

Aston Martin would be nice too!
