Sadly I just noticed a large horizontal 15 cm long crack on my UX . No idea how it happened possibly a stone or something . Looks like it needs replacement and my insurer Aviva directed me to national windscreens . I have been given a date mid November to drop the car for a day as they need to do some calibration after replacement

.  I never had a windscreen damage in the last 25 odd years so no idea what to look out for .

I can’t get it replaced my Lexus as my insurance won’t cover it . My question to you all is

- 2020 UX FSport Takumi , windscreen has lot of sensors , HUD , camera . Is there anything I need to be looking out for ?
- any one used national windscreens in croydon in the past ?

- do they fit original Lexus  windscreen ?

Thanks

I had the screen replaced in my RC after a rock put a big chip in it. Lexus do not fit windscreens (I asked, they just get one of the big companies in to do it), I had no issues with National Windscreens. The guy they sent out was very experienced and took great care. The screen was Lexus original and I had to wait quite a few weeks for it to arrive from somewhere in Europe. The guy said it had to be a Lexus supplied screen as the model was too recent and too few sold for the pattern makers to bother making screens for it.

Calibration was done a couple of weeks later and it took two days at a specialist company, Lexus and many other marques all use the same facility as the equipment required is too specialised and it requires a large area to work in.

Thanks , that is reassuring .  Been  asked to drop the car off at  national windscreen local centre for a day so they can calibrate at the same time as fit . Hopefully all goes well .

Update , I have been told my national windscreen they can order and fit   an after market windscreen very quickly by 16th Nov  . I requested for Lexus original windscreen, for that it seems they have to get approval from insurer and then look for a supplier and possibly delays . Not sure what that process is .
I dint know it was this difficult to get Lexus parts ? . My MOT is due soon and looks like Iam in bit of a puddle .
I dint want to go for the after market one especially because of all the sensors , HUD , lane change assist etc associated with my windscreen .
Does any one here know how long it takes to get Lexus windscreens and is it best to stick with Lexus part than after market ?

Thanks

No idea how long but personally I would wait for the genuine item, car looks perfectly usable as is.

I must have had 5/6 new windscreens plus several repairs in the last 25-years so you have been pretty lucky.

Toyota don't make glass. It would come from one of the main manufacturers anyway so I wouldn't be too concerned if it didn't have Lexus marking on it. Given the low volume of the UX, there is probably only one, or possibly two, manufacturers that actually offer a screen.

The important thing is that you get the correct screen - one designed for the HUD as it is different to the models without.

Updating , insurance has agreed to genuine Lexus windscreen and national windscreen has sourced one . They have given me an appointment next week for fitting and ADAS calibration at their garage . 4 hours estimated time for replacement  , thus far national windscreen team have been super helpful and swift .
Hope everything goes well next week . I will update once it’s all done if any one is interested .
Thanks

@Ammu Don’t be surprised if National Windscreens say they can’t recalibre everything correctly on the day.
We had to book our NX in to the dealers (at NW’s expense) to be finally recalibrated because NW didn’t have the correct boards for the latest models.

Ditto on my RC300h, took two days at the specialist company Lexus use. To be done correctly the car will have it's suspension geometry double checked and corrected if needed.

Thank you , was that one of the London national windscreen garages ?

I needed a new screen on my RAV4 PHEV - similar technology - all done in 4 hours. No issues.

Not a London branch and for the NX not UX.

I had an Audi A4 windscreen replaced by National Windscreens in Croydon in Feb 2022. It wasn’t an official Audi screen (and I didn’t ask for one, but nor was the windscreen on the car that was broken an OEM one either!).

Not as many sensors or cameras on my A4, but they replaced it and calibrated it in a single appointment very quickly and efficiently. Everything worked as expected after, and still was until I sold the car 20 months later.

Update if anyone interested

Had my windscreen replaced  and calibrated by national windscreen today, as of now all seems to be working fine . I paid the insurance glass replacement excess of £115 . Windscreen was genuine Lexus but I had to request for it . No issues with stock availability.  Booking process was swift and it took them around 3 hours to complete the work

. Local branch customer service not very friendly . Head office team’s customer service was really good .

After the glass replacement I was not provided with any paperwork by the local branch  , I was expecting  some kind of a certificate , wondered if that is the norm . Going to chase this up with customer service .

Thanks for reading

Noticed a new problem today after it started to rain , when the wipers work the driver side one keeps hitting the pillar and makes an annoying tapping noise , which was never there before the windscreen change .
Is it something that can be easily fixed ?
I tried to remove the blade alone and replace  it but no change .

Any suggestions ?

Thanks 🙏

Need to take the wiper arm off and reposition it - had to do the same on my IS 300h after a windscreen change. If its like mine lift the cover at the base of the wiper and then undo the nut. Pull the arm off and then reposition slightly on the splines. Put the nut back on and close the cover.

As others have said, could be a simple reposition of the wiper arm but I would also check the pillar trim has been refitted correctly.

Personally I would take it back the the workshop and get them to sort whatever it is.

I'm surprised (or again perhaps not) they didn't notice when they did all the calibrations. I definitely would request the calibration certificates

Thanks , I was never given a calibration certificate or any paperwork . I am quite surprised why they don’t provide any certificate etc . I will speak to them Monday and see how it goes . I am not very good with spanner’s and tools , so not sure about doing it by myself 😀
