Hi guys,

The hub cap came off my front driver's side wheel. Struggling to find a genuine replacement without spending £60 on Etsy for a set of four non genuine ones. I'd do that however want to hold off getting brand new sparkly ones until I have the wheels refurbished.

Anyone have just the one hub cap going spare?

Cheers!

430 are different to 400 right? I've got a couple of old 400 hub caps but there are also different silver finishes. My 400 in Dubai is not the same as my UK ones.

Yep, I'm afraid they will be different. Thank you though. It seems so difficult to get hold of any off a breaker.

An LS400 in Dubai sounds brilliant 😄 tell me more!

P.S we love photos on here......

I believe that it also depends on whether you have the 17" or 18" wheels on your LS430. I believe that the 2002 came with 17".

Yeah should have said I've got the 17s.

Sadly they are basically hens teeth - I spent the best part of 2 years looking for one and eventually got one from a breaker in Canada for £15 delivered (which was cheap considering although still a bit steep for a bit of plastic) however when it got here it was crushed in the post (they sent it in a bag!) I then had to cobble together one using strong glue and the bits from it and an old one. Keep looking in obscure places like gumtree and facebook marketplace as well as doing a wider search on fleabay and hopefully you will find one (but ask them to post it in a box)

How about creating one from 3D tec. ?    If it’s plastic

Its not the plastic but the look, shape and finish that you can't replicate with 3d printing (yet) also there is a metal clip that goes around it on the inside that helps to hold it in place so I imagine the type of plastic would need to be strong enough to cope with the spring tension etc. The cheapest I have seen them on eBay for is about £25 each (but you had to buy the set of 4) Still lots of little "bits" out there that remind us we are driving cars getting on in years and some parts will start to be very rare (and some of the sellers know it as I have seen one clown looking £75 for one of those centre caps!)

btw - there are a few in the usual places for around £25 but if (like me) you live in Northern Ireland some of these places want £20 or more to post it (and that was BEFORE brexit) one even said they couldn't post a pair of fecking wiper blades as they had to fill in a customs form! (which they don't but such is the reality of buying parts over here, it really is cheaper and less hassle to use Rock Auto)

Wow that's crazy 🤪. I think I've tracked one down on ebay from the States which is £17 but probably at least that amount to ship it. I'll be using rockauto soon for the first time to buy an SKF wheelbearing as per recommendations from a forum member on here. Sounds like they're a good bunch.

Hahaha now that's something I'd not thought of. Can water get into the hub and any other parts more easily without the hub cap on there?

I’m sure there are local’ish specialist 3D printers that might be able to advise you …..

Do keep us in the picture here, I’m sure we’re all on that learning curve and will appreciate your progressive knowledge

Thanks

I’m not a specialist but I have had a 3D printer for around 6 months. I’ve printed lots of stuff, mainly toolbox tidy stuff i.e. spanner and ratchet organiser stuff and a few Lexus coasters.
All the stuff I’ve 3D printed is from downloading the 3D printing files from Thingiverse and there are a couple of Lexus wheel caps on there plus Lexus Logos. Problem is that the material needed for this needs to be durable, flexible and reasonably strong. General printing is done with PLA afaik which isn’t good enough. Other filaments are available that fit the bill but need more expensive 3D printers and extruders.
There is the possibility to scan a reference object and then 3D print in whatever filament type and colour you choose using the correct printer. Buying a scanner for this isn’t cheap at all and paying a 3D printing company to do the work is not cheap.

I use them all the time - make sure you choose the prepaid customs option when choosing delivery - its a bit more expensive, if you dont the customs lot will impound it, leave it in a warehouse for a week, look at it and then charge you an extra £20 for the pleasure. I also recommend getting more than one item as they can usually ship everything together so you would save postage - ie get whatever service parts you want as well they have a huge range.
I've nothing against local merchants and will use them when I can but because (as I mentioned) I am in Northern Ireland they really do take the proverbial *&*& when it comes to postage. Also, as an aside, my local Halfords no longer stock wiper blades for my LS430 and my nearest Lexus dealer is a 100 mile round trip away so I am sort of forced to use mail order when out local garage can't get stuff.

Merry Christmas everyone. Amazingly one popped up on eBay, located somewhere in the UK and £5 shipping. £35 altogether and arrived couple weeks before estimated delivery date. Arrived and fitted yesterday afternoon. So a happy ending overall and a nice little Christmas present for Lexi 😘

Thanks to everyone for helping with this and making recommendations.

Hi mate many thanks for this but I managed to find what I needed on eBay

The Ls600hl sounds a great car. How has the experience been so far, especially with the Hybrid Battery? J

No problem at all.

I am used to big luxury cars but the Ls600hl has been a surprise. It so well engineered and technology advanced. Love the rear seat package and the Mark Levinson surround sound.

Really drives beautiful, silent and everything works, done 222k miles,  mainly motorway miles.

Did get the TPMS fixed and to help mpg replaced air filters and a de-carbon done , so nothing major.

Hybrid bhad Battery is also good, passed the Lexus Battery health check, so no worries.

Would I buy another one, yes sure, the  2010  model like mine  but not the  5 seater optoon, as the middle seat only good for kids, the 4 seater would have provided me with a small fridge and a small pull out table, which I adore!!

Ah yes I always admired the ones with pull out tables. They definitely look like great cars and no doubt far more reliable than their German competitors. Don't even get me started on the tragic issues of Merc sedans 😖

I was thinking, damn, if I had the four seater I could work at the back with my computer, more comfy than what I have at home.lol. I may see if there is an an aftermarket folding laptop table to use in the car.

Also I was adamant I wanted the ls600 with the rsr package and the 2010 model as it had Bluetooth audio and few key updates, I found out these are rare  and much more expensive than the previous models,  lucky I got mine fairly cheap.

Reliability that is something I still can't believe, but not complaining.

Earlier this year I bought one from amayama. Just over £28 including postage.
