Peace of mind is priceless

Maybe priceless is the wrong term to use ……. Your garage has taken “ advantage “ of your loyalty methinks and certainly not been slow in expanding their bill

I just fail to see 28hrs labour charge tbh ……. that’s probably 4 whole, one-man working days worth of effort …….

You’re very trusting …….

Malc

Yet how difficult to validate what is involved. If not to take in on trust you need either extensive experience yourself to understand the extent of the works, or you need to have shopped around and may be have 2 or even 3 quotes for the same work. Unfortunately, the latter does not tend to reflect that many of us tend to want to use the same people repeatedly when they have done something for us to our satisfaction previously. That of course does leave us exposed to abuse of trust.

I will say I have not got the first clue how many manhours would be involved in the above works so is 28 hrs reasonable I cannot say. I will say that at a rate of £52 ph the rate is not in my view unreasonable. Indeed, I couldn't get a decent gas/electrician etc for that money these days. and they don't even have the same fixed overheads to pay for. So, may be overall not such a bad deal?

I'd have thought 16 hours was reasonable, probably quicker still for a Lexus dealer/specialist. 8 hours timing belt/water pump, 4 hours full service including plugs and 2 hours per shock.

28 hours seems like it was estimated not having done that work on that particular vehicle before and therefore over estimated. It can pay sometimes to have a specialist to do the work as they will complete it in less time (but Lexus won't be 4 times quicker so you would still be £££s in at £ 52 ph).

Sorry, SC430. I’m looking at buying one, but the one I like has no evidence of this important work having been carried out.

Andy, how did you get on with all this ?
